Indeed, this is important, if RNG is in your favour there's the potential to have multiple procs and an extremely long duration with this 10% damage reduction.

If you want to use a Macro to announce you're using a skill. Make sure it's limited to this: "Using [Skill] on [Target]." Add a sound effect if you deem it necessary.

Even though using a macro to communicate with your group is nice, some people take it too far and start this whole roleplaying in the chatbox:

Thanks everyone working towards it now as it does seem handy. I'm actually giving SCH a try as well, figure might as well. It's brutally painful getting to 30 though, forgot I'd have to DPS. Man the queues are awful, I HATE having to DPS (I DPS as WHM but I mean pure DPS). At 24 right now so getting there!

If you have leves, those are much more efficient to do for EXP as a DPS when queue times are long. Here is a google doc with info on which leves to do and where to get the best EXP/hour.

Personally for me for most of the time during ARR: Eye for an Eye - Great skill that's highly underrated.

However is it needed? No it will not mean you can't clear content or do speedruns - Prehaps you use 1 Less Holy.

If you really are against levelling an arcanist then don't feel pressured into getting it just for the skill. Its similar to Stoneskin - is it good on a SCH/AST? Sure. Is it mandatory to clear content? not yet (if we ever get an encounter that needs stoneskin + adlo and AST/SCH is a viable PROGRESSION combination)
