they also need different animations from bloody cat tails.
i can't imagine the skeleton of a dragon tail functioning the same as a cat, but apparently they do.
they're really copy pasted. =(

My big thick tail moves pretty differently to my old Miqo'te one. I always have short tails though, maybe it is different when you have a long thin tail.
But the question to you people is, what sort of animation would you give the Au Ra to look completely different to the Miqo'te tail animation?
They do a lot of copy/paste to save on resources. Why you think Au'ra face pretty much look like a hume, elf.cat face? From the live letter we had it seem Au'ra hit the limit of resources pretty early on with just the horns/scales. It seem SE learn noting from FFXI/FFXIV 1.0 and keep on setting limit i'm pretty sure this have to due to cost of up keep on the servers.
But really the fact that they can't even separate horn from the face of the Au'ra due to this limit. Make this awesome game very lame when they can't do half of the things that most MMO can do out there. Housing i bet take up a lot of resources and they keep adding more wards for something that a lot of people only use maybe a one hour or so a day or none at all. I only use the FC housing for a quick repair or to check the market board or meet up with FC members.
Sadly i hope they can't find a way out of this limit where they can't do A because X,Y,Z is taking the most resources so A,B,C get f**k over.

Some of the animations are different (excluding the Ball Dance) my boyfriend went Au Ra and I stayed Miqo'te and we did several emotes together. His tail definitely moved around a lot less.
[EDIT] And if you've ever seen/held a young iguana, you will know that they have very thin fast tails that they will literally whip people with if not trained properly. So not all scaly tails are slow and clunky.

The gap is there because where the tail is attached is the default size of all tails. Actually making a big, thick tail completely different from the rest would've been pretty difficult when combining with female Au Ra physique. I guess it's also to prevent some clipping.
I mean, it does the same thing with the guy's body too. I just really wish the tail didn't look so dumb with that one, like the tails clip a ton anyways, why not make it so the one tail that looks really different doesn't look also awkward as heck with the base?
I'm guessing because with some gear gets a tail window when equipped by a Miqote or Aura and it's fitted for thinner tails. From developer point of view it wouldn't make sense to add a bigger window on all that gear just for 1 tail.
Shrugs, I dunno, isn't there a lot of gear that's modified for Miqo'te tails, but not Au Ra tails? I mean, I remember seeing a post showing off that sorta issue, and at that point it's like "If you're gonna clip, why not make it so this one tail doesn't look stupidly awkward when it's not clipping?".
