I actually see it from that point of view too. I find it so odd when people get "really angry" about being undercut, when realistically they should be overjoyed when they had the opportunity to make good profit before. Being able to sell something with a huge profit margin has never been the norm (in a healthy market), and expecting huge profit margins will only lead to disappointment. Huge profit margins are good, but they're like a gift. Losing a high profit margin should not result in someone getting angry like a child.

    Huh.

I am not a market player. I prefer to invest 90% of my ptime (which is a lot) into raiding/dungeon runs instead of looking at the markets. I put stuff on the market every 3 days because even when I'm not crafting/fishing my inventory doesn't have enough room for everything. You know what? Crazy undercutting hurts.

I understand the logic behind undercutting. I don't have time for this. As such, I lose quick and dirty gil I could and should have made from hours put into the game.

If it wasn't a nightmare to navigate the items im selling and change the prices I wouldn't mind undercuts that much

It's not a cure at all. Extreme undercutting can completely destroy the market for an entire server and prevent new market participants from gaining much profit at all. There really should be some sort of limitation to large undercuts.

The market changes daily though, and I noticed you can get extreme dips in prices because of Weekend Warriors only to see it creep back up. S

So when the first person to gain Mythrite Ingots from the new expansion list them on the market board at 999,999,999 gil, you'd be okay with not being able to undercut this ridiculous surcharge?

If someone is able to successfully undercut by a huge margin, then the market's prices were too high.

This is true but if one person has a leash on the market then very little is going to change. If anything, it will just get worse and closer to unprofitable. If one person is controlling the market, it will be 24/7, not just weekends.

Obviously some precautions should be set in place to allow big undercuts above a certain listing value. Also, that last statement is completely false. Some people undercut massively just for the hell of it or to drive people away, not only because something is listed high.

But that is only a kind of temporal, its a condition that cannot be sustained for much time if the price is lower than the raw materials cost, After that the price will be back to normal.
So thats a normal (though not a nice one) practice in a free market from big sellers to kick out from market to smaller sellers.

In a free market price is auto-regulated by offer/demand. So gatherers have allways the best rolls to win since their costs are reduced in expense of the time they invest gathering.

Thats not true. Some servers (like mine) are controlled by 1 person for years, never letting prices rise to anything even closely resembling normal except in rare days of inactivity. If people have 100s of millions of gil then sustaining this permanently is a piece of cake. The fact that this is possible indefinitely needs to be fixed, because new crafters on such servers will just stop crafting after realising theres little profit to be made without spending ages gathering materials for everything.
