Not that I know of; I just thought it was funny that we glossed right over it, lol. I'm sure they'd just already accepted that it was too much of a long-shot and decided to work with that they had to start out. Awfully convenient, though.

I've said this before, but if any of our Scion friends end up dead as fallout from a death that was really cheaply undone, then the writing really will have managed to reach new lows. If, however, it turns out that Lolorito lied to our faces about how exactly he saved Nanamo... Then all bets are off. Who the hell is Dewlala, anyway?

Personally, I feel like we've lost enough people already, even though with the exception of Haurchefant and one major character from the Binding Coil arc, all of them have been "new" characters brought in for the specific purpose of being "meaningful" sacrifices for the almighty status quo. I'm finding it really hard to get attached to anyone they introduce anymore. I've even started prepping memorials for the new Alexander story NPCs. It's only a matter of time.

You can also inspire character development through people getting sick of losing others, it can inspire them into bold- or rash- actions. I don't think we've seen that recently from our character in a cutscene. From our own actions, sure, but a cutscene?

The story won't progress unless you do what they tell you to do, just like you can't progress on Azys Lla until you agree to the Guidance Node's ToS ("Yes" and "I... suppose?"). I'm fine with that, but the point is someone else is still calling the shots.

I suppose it's possible, though careful study of chemistry and biology, to make a poison that would choke someone to unconsciousness but not kill them. The only person I can think of with that level of alchemical ability is Severian himself, though (really need to see what that old chap is up to). However, if some of the wine went down Nanamo's windpipe, she'd probably just cough it up in a second. It's impossible to choke on liquids (that's called drowning).

Lolorito was in full control of the Braves (back then, at least). While always implicit, it wasn't until after Ilberd cuts off Raubahn's arm that he tells the Braves (and Blades) to detain the Scions. By that point, his main objective - offing "too big for his britches" Teledji Adeledji - had already been completed (without Ilberd goading Raubahn to do it, but that's another matter). They also pursue us throughout the escape, which... makes no sense if he would rather we stay alive and free. Except perhaps for appearances' sake, but he seems to have thrown appearances to the wind by 3.0. It's so self-contradictory as to be vexing.

Minfilia's whereabouts are probably the most frustrating question; we have a linkpearl to contact her with, and she had nowhere to go but out the same exit we did. She has to be alive. (A sidequest for the "Doman Adventurers' Guild" heavily implies this, as they say something about "Mistress Ascilia," Ascilia being Minfilia's real name.)

Thancred...? Probably snared in Y'shtola's Flow (he was in front of her, and it looked like a pretty big area spell). Without knowledge of how Flow works exactly we can't say though. I'd wager we find him seducing Garlean hunnies when we get there though, lol.

Minfilia seemed to be moving down that path after Moenbryda's death, so I'm hoping she comes back as that character. Y'shtola is slow-burning her life-force to keep her aethersight up; Twelve only know what new self-destructive tendencies the others will have picked up when we find them. My dearest hope for Minfilia as a character is for her to come back and smack some sense into her "family."

They're all capable people who can do a lot of good for the world and the people around them, but if they all off themselves one at a time to solve this crisis, they're really just abandoning us to face the next one alone. And there's always a new crisis around the corner.

In fact its existence was one of the big points people used to say that Nanamo would survive...now if it was Somnus why it affected her that way who knows, it probably wasn't supposed to. Possibly it was mixed in with another drug (and probably tested before being used on her.), possibly it was a completely different drug.

it seems that's the easiest part of adventuring. at least our characters get paid to be "yes" (wo)men

i usually cough more than once when liquid goes down the wrong pipe. her eyes did do a thing as well however, and someone pointed out that the drug used is recurring in ffxiv.

Maybe he also considered the scions a political enemy at the moment as well? also at the time we were still being accused of assassinating the Sultana (despite no one believing it.) and without a doubt the scions would be accused of conspiracy. idk, maybe it was to stroke ilberd's ego or something. I doubt the order to pursue came from him alone.

    minfilia
no idea about her, but something tells me she will either be the first person or last person we find...(if we don't find them all at once sipping tea in a hole somewhere .-.)

Y'shtola did say it backfired...so thancred could be anywhere.

he might be in thavniar for all we know.

Instead of asking if they should be writing off characters, you should be insisting on developing the ones we have.

Heavensward did not do much in this regard and relegating it to side-quests - like the moogles ones -, separates it from the common knowledge of the game.

Just for that, I figure we'll find them in Sharlayan or Thavniar and it'll go something like this:

Minfillia: Oh! Warrior of Light! How fares the war in Eorzea? We would have come sooner but...tea.

    Man that would be rich.

    Temulun: *nods*

Shadow Temulun: Kupo you! I was out fighting, sweating, bleeding, and almost dying while you were sipping on [kupo!] tea?! What the kupo?! One of my best friends died because you were too lazy to get off your [kupo!] arse?! Keep drinking your [kupo!] tea. I'll deal with this [kupo] myself.
