Crafting is not and never has been supposed to be on par with raid gear. At its best it is only supposed to be viable to get you into the raids. Releasing anything higher than the I160 right now would contradict this and flood the market since there is currently no endgame raid. When Alex savage and red scrips come out in 2 weeks there will be I170 if not I180 craftable gear. They don't need to say it its the way they have always done crafting progression and it works.

It's the possibility that the gear you are hoping for is something that won't be available until the same time they add weekly tomes. Because on top of adding weekly tomes they are also adding weekly scrips which will most likely lead to more craft books and higher tier gear that may be equivalent in power to the current tome gear but with the option to add materia to them.

The developers seem to have no intention to make crafting anything more than glamour peddlers, and even then I doubt they're going to do a proper job of it. Though who knows, maybe I'm wrong and they'll do the right thing and make Esoterics not Job specific, and slap AF2 on Red Scrips.

Not to claim Final Fantasy XI is some amazing game or anything, but god damn do I miss Abjurations and pop items like Hakutaku Eye Clusters... Abjurations alone would be enough to make crafting plenty relevant without shitting on progression...

HQ multi-meld crafted gear has always been useful/quick for progressing into end game raids. Especially since these Raids have weekly lockout and RNG.

If melded right, they might still be BiS compared to the end game gear.

They are not doing this anymore. They don't want a mockery made of their endgame raids by ppl in penta melded full crafted set 5 seconds after patch. We'll have to gear up with eso, ct4(when it comes ) and alex nm.

I feel that the gear is much more time and money consuming to acquire than just tome gear to get you into raids, but that being said, if you're right about how the melded gear compares against the end game gear then I take back my argument! Thanks!

I expect they will eventually put it together and balance the rewards with the crafted, using set bonuses I expect. Under power the crafted gear, balance them with a set bonus. Unless they find a way to obtain the materials that set it apart from currency purchased rewards, it's all quite pointless. The only reason to have different sets is to offer different content methods of getting them. Dungeon crawl to craft or dungeon crawl to avoid craft is linear.

When did they say this? Did they say they'll stop making craftable gear for future patches?

They said they don't want crafted gear viable for endgame raids. And it makes sense if u look at the stat difference between 180 law and alex nm gears. Crafted 180 would be junk tier and there aint no way they will release crafted stuff the same ilvl as alex nm stuff. Also keep in mind, esoterics gear will be an even higher ilvl than alex nm and still this wont be the top ingame gears.

FFXIV had as an aim to never let crafters get into BiS gear, so players couldn`t "buy" their way into the raids. That was the excuse for this since the begining, and till the FCoB it was like that (melded i110 was too good for the time). But now they are returning.

The problem is, the hipocresy of not letting crafters to make near BiS or BiS gear but let mercs to sell raid gear and runs and do not move a finger about it. Just curious how some minds work at the dev team... Let crafters do BiS or ban merc parties.
