The future of crafting and gathering... is still being written and sad to say you or no other crafter or gatherer will be involved in it's planning or implementation. The only thing you can do is work your gathering till it can't go any higher, craft items because yeah there's no decently priced gear on AH, and pray yes Pray that SE see's reason and opens a more viable personal housing option up which will create obscene demand for housing furnishings. We're in 3.0 and still have more decimals to go before expansion 3 so buckle up and stop thinking ahead.
This a 2 parter... too much text...The future of crafting and gathering... is still being written and sad to say you or no other crafter or gatherer will be involved in it's planning or implementation. PART 1: I understand its all still growing but this has been an issue basically since 2.0. You can craft stuff, but as far as crafted gear and weapons none of it is really worth it. It takes more time and even if you HQ the best thing that you can make it is still usually trumped almost immediately by raid or high dungeon gear.
PART 2: Look... it can be difficult to get a feel for a person's tone through text on a screen, so let me make it clear, I'm not typing this to be in a complain complain complain tone, I love xiv! I just wish crafting served a bit more of a purpose is all. I leveled almost all my crafters to 50 in ARR, started improving my crafting gear with melding and what not, and when I got pretty good, I found I had no purpose to craft anything other than for some glamours ever again... the tower and tome gear was easier to get and better than anything that could be crafted. So I just kinda feel like crafting is something of a novelty, and is not actually useful.

I read the patch notes almost as soon as they were available, what is it you're referring to? I mean with alexander and alexander savage offering i190 gear (and probably higher in savage) what will crafting do that can compete with that? I didn't see anything in the notes stating that there will be new recipes for really useful gear but if you know something I don't please enlighten me..... I really REALLY want to be wrong on this post :-D
It's the possibility that the gear you are hoping for is something that won't be available until the same time they add weekly tomes. Because on top of adding weekly tomes they are also adding weekly scrips which will most likely lead to more craft books and higher tier gear that may be equivalent in power to the current tome gear but with the option to add materia to them.I read the patch notes almost as soon as they were available, what is it you're referring to?
