    Possibilities are many.
An Egi superior on 5 or more mobs. Applications: the Vault, Alex2
An Egi superior on burst modes - strong oGCD on long cooldowns. Applications: Bismarck and Ravana
An Egi that helps to regen MP during moments of downtime.

There are always ways to think of situational Egis as long as we are allowed to switch pets with minimum cast time and MP cost, ie. to design SMN to a stance-dancing Job around switching pets. The devs simply chose to push SMN to another direction.

There are still issues like having the pet work well with the PC - this gets more difficult the more pets you add.

IMHO the best pet class in WoW isn't even officially a pet class, the Frost Mage.

It has one pet, with both PC and pet abilities build to complement each other. A true team, pet sets up the shot (with Freeze) and the PC socks it in.

    Like a beach volleyball team.
