PLEASE, I have wanted this for the longest time. Many other games have the ability, including crappy f2p games, so it feels a little silly that FFXIV doesn't allow for it.

I'd love to see all the old gear revamped to be dyed better... Though I don't think SE will ever do that lol.
There are thousands and thousands of different features that MMOs have, its impossible (even for a subscription based game) to include them all even if it wanted to.

I hardly think that adding a secondary dye colour when it's evident that there are multiple sections already on a piece of gear (such as stubborn greens or yellows that you can't get rid of even with dye, or 2-tone that become 1-tone such as the new Law gear), is such a huge expectation.
Again, I am no programmer but it hardly seems like a challenge to say "ok this section of the gear is controlled by dye 1, and this section is controlled by dye 2". To me it seems like a pretty big character design flaw when there is such little customization on the dyes currently.
YESS ive wanted this for so long please square consider it!! it would improve character gear variety soso much
Of all the things I want, this is the thing I want the most.

While I'd love this, I don't see it happening. As someone said before, it would require 3 bytes (one for each color value) to be added to a dyeable item (more if they implement tertiary dyes etc.) which I suppose by itself doesn't sound big at all. Now consider adding this to every single dyeable item, for every single character, and you are suddenly looking at a big data increase. Considering that this is stored server-side (I think) it'll be a substantial increase of data for every single character in the game which could lead to more unstable servers, so unless the improve their server architecture or the way they store their data, it's probably for the best if it doesn't happen (sadly). This is assuming they store it in a database of some sorts, but ye
Also, just wanted to point out that while this argument really does make sense, the whole notion of backing up data every 10 seconds is ridiculous, especially since that's what gobbles up tons of data. Once a minute would be more than enough imo, but that's just me.

When i first looked at the BRD/MCH Law chest, it looked hideous. Black on white with deep blue armor plates on the black portion.
I figured when i was able to dye it, I'd try and bring out that armor plate to be visible. I had hoped the black portion was the dye able part, but it turned out to be the white side.
Turns out, Crimson ended up being a really good combination there, But it'd be damnably nice if we had 2 color channels for all gear. Just break it down into "Main Color" and "Accent Color".
Edit: Though i will say a heartfelt thank you to the art team for letting me dye the aether ammo box thingy along with my Gun.

You might be right, the intent of my post was only to point out the error of an argument.I hardly think that adding a secondary dye colour when it's evident that there are multiple sections already on a piece of gear (such as stubborn greens or yellows that you can't get rid of even with dye, or 2-tone that become 1-tone such as the new Law gear), is such a huge expectation.

ButI do enjoy playing Devil's Advocate.
Imagine you were building a house. Blueprints are delivered to you and you pour the foundation, raise the walls, build a roof, drywall, paint, etc...and then someone tells you that they'd like an additional room in the heart of the house. That additional room is no more difficult to build than any other room, but because its so late into construction it would require more work on a massive scale. You now have to undo much of what you've already done. Had you planned for it for in the beginning it wouldn't have been as difficult, but now after the fact, that one room could entail more work than building the entire house.Again, I am no programmer...I hardly think that adding a secondary dye...is such a huge expectation.
That's what its like sometimes adding in features to video games. It might not seem so different than what they already have, but under the surface it can be very difficult. For example, the 1.0 dungeons like AV and Cutter's Cry don't seem any different to us players, but how they were built is so different than how dungeons in 2.0 were designed that Yoshi said in a live letter that they wouldn't be getting hard modes because of this. To us, there's no reason they couldn't, but to the developers it isn't worth the effort to deal with the old design.
They would also have to go back and adjust every single item to accommodate this new feature. They'd have to specify where the 2nd dye would effect on every single piece of armor, which is over 3,000 head, chest, hand, leg, and feet items according to ffxivdb. Mind you, many of those are not dyable now, but its probably safe to say they would have to adjust more than a thousand items.
The idea is great, but these features that we might ask for in seconds could sometimes be projects that go on for months to the developers. I'd get lots of use out of this feature to be sure, but I can understand why the devs would choose not to include it in the game (even if they wanted to). They have limited resources and have to juggle them between everything that needs done. In short, this request (and most) are huge expectations.
