    Horrible Lag

For whatever reason, only on FFXIV, I'm lagging insanely bad at certain times of the time. No idea why, I've run a tracert and there doesn't seem to be any issues there unless I'm misinterpreting the results. I cannot use WTFast or other programs as if it backfires it negatively impacts others. I can play any other game even in Europe and have no problems. However I get massive pauses and spikes on final fantasy.

East Coast with Verizon? Seems to be the trend right now, lag is astounding.

NYC - Verizon Fios, however I've done a tracert and there's no areas with significant ping? Maybe packet loss is the issue, however I'm not sure how to find these numbers or interpret them.

Make sure you are tracing to an address the game actually uses....see a lot of people tracing to the wrong addresses. The servers in Canada all start with 199.

As for the results--you want the response times to be consistently pretty tight from one to the next. A wide variance in the times at one hop, or a major jump in times between hops is usually a good sign of congestion that needs to be addressed.

I appreciate the feedback, and I am using 199.91.189.42 as the server address for Leviathan, and I'm getting a * * * at number 4 and then one or two more randomly scattered, however this is at all times, when the lag isn't at all times.

Also note, there's never a massive spike in ping with the exception of 5-6 and 6-7 where it increases from 14->30->50 but it stays at about 50 the entire time, i also wouldn't really call those spikes massive.

There actually could be issues at those hops with the starred events...but you can't confirm that since they may be configured to ignore the ICMP ECHO request full time. However that could also be a rule kicking in once utilization crosses a certain threshold--if you ever get one of those hops to respond in a trace, that pretty much confirms that possibility.

Otherwise you may able to flush out the routing angle with some further VPN testing. Typically you will have a way to select different locations for tunnelling. If one doesn't improve gameplay, try a different one. During our B4/EA period for ARR, I found my free Tunnel Bear account (500mb/month, 1Gb extra if you promote them via twitter) didn't always do so well when I tunneled to Canada, and was sometimes better tunnelling to the US. Same with CyberGhost--I sometimes got better results going overseas.

I started having really bad lag through the client last night around midnight EST. It's still happening today, I've already reset my router twice and double checked all my settings even tried different wireless adapters. The problem still persists it has to be on their end cus nothing has changed on my end.

Nothing has changed on my end either since I swapped my routers and modems nearly a year ago...and I almost never have issues. There have been the odd incident here and there, and when it happens it is typically either Time Warner resetting hardware or problems show up in a trace--I forward the findings to TWC and then it clears up later (sometimes they beat me to it, rebooting my modem and I have a new route).

The changes that have been working for me (and others as well) is the routing--either within our own ISP's network or who they assign us for peering to get to Ormuco in Montreal. That is being done through our ISP (or via VPN/Proxy service) and not Square-Enix.
