Ahhhh OccamX another thread? Really? How many of these thread will you make and how many times will I have to tell you, if you don't like the game STOP PLAYING IT. If you like apples and don't like oranges, stop trying to turn this orange into an apple. Good god man!
Skipping every cutscene and spamming through dialogue, teleporting as close as I can to every quest objective and using ilvl 115 gear from heavensward it took me about 12 hours to finish the 100 story quests I had to do after hitting level 50 until I could play heavensward.
All while getting practically no exp or worthwhile rewards. Why couldn't I just skip this if I felt like it? I don't play this game for the story anyway.

Because the game was not designed this way. You can argue all day that it should be, the fact remain that it is not. This is a story driven game and thus you need to complete story to advance. It is not SE's fault if you did not play when everyone else was during this past year and did not get yourself ready for the expansion.
My advice to you is play thegame the way it is, if you don't like it and it's enough to REALLY bug you, then vote with your money and move on, this game is not for you.
When I figured WoW was not for me anymore, I didnt throw a tantrum or post on the forums to bitch about it, I left, after a decade of playing it. It's okay to admit the game is not designed for you.
Clearly I did it anyway. I'm just saying it was an unpleasant waste of time to get to the content I wanted to play and had payed for already.
The question really is why was it designed this way?

It is designed as almost every other MMO is designed. Let's take WoW for instance, let's say I had stopped playing in Wrath of the Lich King (2nd expansion) and wanted to jump in Pandaria (4th expansion) right away. I couldnt. Why? Because I had to progress through the content of Cataclysm (3rd expansion) in some ways shape or form. Not the whole thing mind you but parts of it yes. It is the exact same thing in between 2.x and 3.0. SE is not asking you to clear Binding Coil to get to the expansion, you don't even have to have completed all side quests, you only need to complete MSQ.
Buying an expansion to an MMO not expecting to have to play through the first game before heading into the expansion was stupid. Even worse! You knew ahead of time, months in advance, that it was gonna be this way and you still complain about it on the forums. WHat did you think was gonna happen seriously?
When HW Came out I completed my 2.0 / 2.5 / 2.55 Story quests. Got a ton of rewards and exp. Enjoyed the Cutscenes / cinematics. Did dungeons / quests. Enjoyed completing them and the rewards.
I loved how large the 3.0 Maps are. I loved flying. I Loved the update to my class. The cut scenes aren't that long. (They are 10 minutes each at best). I spent most of my time finding aether nodes and finding moogles LOL.
Anyway, all of the elitism is unwarranted. It isn't as if everyone here is PVPing to compete for openworld Raid bosses or anything like that. Heck, most of us don't even pvp.

I have a couple FC mates who have skipped every cutscene since 1.0 beta.
Not sure why you chose WoW of all games because nothing you said is true. WoW in particular makes it very easy to skip all the previous games content in order to get to the current expansion and even go as far as giving you an instant level 90. There was no WoW expansion where you were forced to do any previous content. It is designed as almost every other MMO is designed. Let's take WoW for instance, let's say I had stopped playing in Wrath of the Lich King (2nd expansion) and wanted to jump in Pandaria (4th expansion) right away. I couldnt. Why?
