What is Final fantasy without cutscenes?
I like cutscenes in this game very much because of how well-fit it is to the backgrounds the immersion it helped. The story itself is enough to keep me watching all and every scene. Unlike the vast majority of games, where cutscene doesn't matter, story doesn't matter and some don't even have both.
In the end, I think well-made cutscenes are part of the Final fantasy spirit. So if you don't enjoy lengthly cutscenes like I do, then I suppose it's not for you.
Also, I feel that the reason you feel it's too long because you tried to rush things to get to the new contents, rather than enjoying the game at the usual pace. That obviously will make you feel those things are a chore. Breaking down the main quests, doing side quests and other things in-between, you will feel those contents are actually not that long at all.
