I don't think having summons with real textures that are a little bit larger than human would be a problem in battles.

hmm...
ehm no... just no..
in FFXI it wasnt a problem either.. and they could make it almost same size as a player..

I like how if anyone says they like the egi's someone tells them their opinion is wrong.
When in doubt, assume sarcasm

I've actually grown found of my Titan Egi. I keep telling him he shouldn't have skipped leg day.
I see what you mean, thinking back on it. Eos and Selene even have an actual backstory. However, an ungraded model probably won't make the Egis any more appealing in this manner.I mostly just hate the egis because they lack any... liveliness or personality. I like to think of the 'pet' fighting by my side to be a companion, not just some tool used to increase my DPS.
I felt carbuncle was more of a companion because it looked lively and had a decent amount of personality with how it looked and moved... It seemed more like a living creature. Plus it was a cute, that always helps. :P
The egis don't even look like living, feeling creatures to me, personally. I miss my carbuncles.

"Where do you think you're going looking like that Mister! You're not going out till you've changed into a giant 30ft affront to nature!!"

They showed that they can make them look better if you look at the granite gallowers.
But to answer why mounts will always have more detail OP is this.
Not every one is going to be a summaner but every one will use a mount.
