Divine Veil - Would cutting out the healing aspect be too much?

So I've heard some debate as to whether the "caster" in the DV tooltip is the PLD or the person who casts the heal that triggers the ability. If it is in fact always 10% of the PLD's max HP, why not just get rid of the healing aspect and just make the skill itself shield the party when cast? Would that be too imbalanced or mindless?

It just always seems to be that when I cast Divine Veil, every healer decides to stop healing me and we don't get the shield when needed. I even have a little sound macro to let them know to heal me but DF healers rarely do.

The ability is also 100% useless when soloing since you can't proc it yourself with Clemency or cross-class Cure. Plus, it seems to me that the PLD doesn't even gain the shield effect when it does proc, am I just getting hit right away and losing it or does this ability not affect the PLD at all? Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the spell, I just wish it was a little easier to use sometimes.

From experience, it doesn't hit the Paladin. The usefulness of it is for things like anticipated transition phases, like Earthen Fury, Tsunami, Knights of the Round, Diamond Dust, Giga Flare, etc.. Keep using it with your sound effect, but try to remember that the duration on the shield itself is 30 seconds when it triggers, so there is a fairly long window to gain benefit within. Anticipate when the last bit of AOE damage is going to go out before these transitional skills, then use it several seconds before, so that you are more likely to take healing to trigger the effect.

Hey, you have stoneskin for soloing, it does the same amount. DV is more for party content as said above~, it's a great tool when you work together with your pt to help out your healers try making a macro for it or if you are struggling with application try one of the barrier healers to learn more about useful times it could be used, time consuming but... Playing both tank and healer really helped me see how damage is mitigated effectively, when cds are needed etc. ^^ especially when playing pld with the new healish moves. i find so many plds overhealing with clemency when they could be mitigating damage with other tools or whatever.

DV is every WHM wet dream is-being able to cast SS2 mid fight. Even though you dont get the shielding effect, yourself, you're top priority in terms of who's getting healed. Not to mention you're the Adlo receiver and that Adlo needs to be spread and as mentined above you can SS yourself. All fair to me.

It's not 100% dependable but I've found that I can usually have the party shielded when I need to. I do think that you should be able to heal yourself to activate it, that would be far from "OP" IMO and not sure why that was cut out as an option, even if it was at a reduced shield potency when self activated to compensate for the PLDs HP pool

I agree they should just make it give the shield instead of having to have the healer cure you. It's not a big deal in a group with a good healer. But already I've found personally with random healers and those that just don't know the fight are slow to heal when i throw it up, macro included, spammed at times, with a sound effect thrown in there to get the healers attention and they still don't make it in time.

Best way to make it work currently, perdict the move coming up about 30 seconds before it actually goes off and throw it up then.

I'm actually hoping they'll change it so we don't need the heal to activate the effect. Since the Paladin who uses it doesn't get the buff, I can't see why it would be unbalanced if we just created the shield ourselves.
