It isn't just the end-game, either. The community as a whole has become more toxic. in my recollection, pre-2.0 had nowhere near the misery or toxicity that seems to be the current standard. Im not sure whether to point at the playerbase or the game design. More likely, it's something else entirely. Maybe it's gaming as a whole and not just MMOs, but people tend to suck nowadays. We really treat each other like crap.

Honestly people in game are chill in like 99.9% of my experiences (whether "casual" or "elite" or the giant middle ground that most people are actually in). The forums on the other hand...

A game that is entirely team jump rope mechanics makes people want to play with people that know how to jump rope or else everybody falls down. Shocking.

The way fights are designed in this game leaves miniscule space for error for ANYONE on the team. When its that hard to carry people, then people who can't carry themselves become a time wasting liability. People don't like to come home from work, get 6 buddies to run, and wipe for 3 hours because of the new pug player. It's not fun.

Team jump rope games are going to create exclusion because it is such a gigantic PITA and waste of time to catch a new guy up. That doesn't make people evil. That makes them practical.

Tldr: make you own pf. If it doesn't fill get you friends. If you don't have any friends, then go make some. If you can't make friends and establish relationships, then social MMOs may not be for you.

I haven´t played 1.0 beside from beta, but we all know what it was when it went live and only a handfull of people played it for longer because most could´t stand it. Unlike ARR it wasn´t really popular and with that you had less asshats. ARR is way more convenient. The more convenient the game is, the more muppets will show up. It was the same with with pre - WoW MMO´s. The community which played these games was another one than that who started playing MMO´s after WoW.

So no, I don´t think it´s your imagination. There are way more muppets in this game then 1.0 ever had players.

A few weeks back, my FC and I made a t9 PF, with only two rules: know the fight, and no sold bonus. Simple, right? First go, we had a guy join who asked if he could despite not clearing on the character he was playing, claiming it was an alt. Leader allowed him to join, as he had politely asked and agreed to leave if he made too many big mistakes. Turns out he was telling the truth, and it WAS an alt. Next week, we make another t9 PF, same rules. Party fills up, everyone calls items, we go in...and there's a sold bonus, and the one person who doesn't have dreadwyrm gear/t13 title insists that they've cleared -- they just "didn't clear t13 yet", that's why they had no DW. We kicked them, got a new person, went in, and surprise, no bonus!

If you can't get a learning PF going, POLITELY ask to join a farm group. Not everyone's willing to carry, but it's better than lying and sneaking in.

The JP have a different view of how to play the game but I can't imagine it's all sunshine and rainbows on a JP server. If it is then they've come a long long way in 10 years. I played FFXI where all the servers were integrated and the JP were incredibly exclusionary. It was pretty typical that the moment they had the slightest idea that you weren't JP, they'd drop you instantly if they could replace you.

I have to agree with this. I see the PFs that are asking for certain skill levels and have a lot of hostility regarding kicks. I've joined some, I avoid most (mostly due to my similar experience to others here that the leaders of such parties can rarely meet their own expectations) and I can count on one hand the number of truly terribly toxic interactions I've had in the game since ARR launch. Maybe I'm just lucky. However, I also try to take steps to alleviate it. If it's my first time in a dungeon I will openly admit it as the cutscene loads and explain that I will be doing small pulls since I don't know what to expect. I won't join a clear group unless I know the fight and I won't join a farm party unless I've cleared the fight save for a few exceptions where I'd been down to less than 5% on the fight and I always send the leader a tell before I join the party explaining my situation and asking if they would check to see if anyone would have a problem with me joining for a clear.

I'm from EU but started on NA to play with my partner, I regret this though as he left the game ages ago, as he put it, "the game is cram packed with anti-social know-it-all weaboos that are always convinced that they are right and everyone else is wrong", we both love the game but the playerbases attitude drove him away.
I've recently started playing Elder Scrolls Online for PS4 with him and we both agree that the playerbase there is generally much more friendly and forgiving, you even just have to take a look at their forums, there isn't half as much bitching and sniping on there as there is here.

After having been in countless farm parties that fell apart because people who obviously didn't have the fight on farm tried to sneak in, I don't blame them. It gets frustrating to try to farm a fight only to have every party disband because people are screwing up on basic mechanics.

People really need to be more realistic about how well they know the fight. Clearing it once does not automatically mean you're capable of farming it, yet a lot of people seem to act like they can hop straight into farm parties after a clear. Can you in some cases? Sure. But not in all, and people need to honestly assess their comfort level with a fight before they just blithely join a farm.

Actually the 1.0 community started getting extremely toxic around the time that people started doing optimal speed runs on Dzemael Stronghold for that one bonus chest. Continued to cutters cry with the inclusion of darklight gear, and has only progressively gotten worse and worse.

It really helps to find a group of friends to run content with. I personally find it a bit disgusting that people are shunned from trying new content without first seeing X number of tutorial videos so that they know what they need to do. Part of the fun used to be from learning new content, but those days are mostly gone now

I have never opened Party Finder. If I want jerks around me, I can get them for free on the street or at work, without paying a monthly fee for that. :P
