That would be someone like me. I would love to play a female badass dragon warrior, but right now they just look like Miqo'te with scales, which isn't really interesting at all.
I'm kinda sour that female Xaela don't have remotely as rich a skin tone variance as males. This is a pretty grievous oversight. :/
I went with Xaela at first but then the Xaela scales changing color in the sun began to drive me nuts(dark color to a brighter metalic looking blue)I think it's because guys would rather go for a darker, more intimidating look. Same reason why female Raen outnumber female Xaela, because people want to go for cuter/gentler looking girls. I personally think female Xaelas are awesome and dark scales make a nice contrast. I like male Xaelas too, I think dark scleras actually suit them but I think sclera colour should be a choicebecause not everyone likes them obviously. I think horn style should be a choice too.
Pretty much this. Even though I have been enjoying my Au Ra, there is definitely some weird things about the race. The size of the females for one. The fact that Xaela are supposed to be nomadic tribal warriors, yet my male stands and appear as if Elezen taught him how to be "proper." The females would benefit from looking more barbaric and big in my opinion. I mean I get it that it's clear that the females have that "cutesy Japanese" thing going on, and it's clearly popular as they are everywhere in game it seems, but it's weird and doesn't really fit the race description. I really hope the next races they add are full on beast races and no more of this half animal "kawaii" people.
Tbh, I hate the idea that a particular race was made to be "cute." Suppose if someone likes the concept of playing as a dragon/demon-like female, but get put off by how adore the faces are. I think this was an issue with the Hyur Midlander female's running, which makes them look more fragile than anything like warriors.
LOL just because something looks weak and fragile didn't mean they are are we completely forgetting how strong Armstrongs little sister is in Full metal Alchemist?
YES! that would have been awesome like in the artwork. I would have changed right away. We need another badass female race. Not every females races have to be lolicute.
But it ruins suspension of disbelief.
Female Midlander Hyur: I'm an ilvl 115 Monk and we just destroyed Titan's fatass on extreme. Let's get out of here. *flails arms*
Granted, I'm not entirely against that running animation. I have another who only uses magic. She was meant to be physically incapable, so having her flail her arms around would make sense. But for the former, who also does MCH (that gun looks heavy btw) and is working to be DRG and PLD, seeing her do it looks... ugh... I hope any future patches allows us to change running animations. You can't expect them all to run and behave the same, just because it's cute. BTW, the character you mentioned was WAY more serious than Armstrong and almost never smiles. She never struck me as being weak and fragile at all.

Heck nah man. I agree with you soooo much. At least with the Xaela, like keep the Raen cutesy and stuff, but the Xaela would be so much better if they looked different.
I disagree, humans are just odd in that we find a lot of deadly animals cute for whatever reason.. That and human cuteness != deadliness, as human cuteness tends to have a lot of high correlative factors with child-like behaviors and appearance, and well children tend not to be deadly unless their gifted with supernatural esque abilites/powers. Like.. Touka isn't just an average highschooler, she's a ghoul with the ability to grow freaky growth things that fire deadly body bullets, but otherwise she's seen as a cute friendly girl, the deadly thing isn't the cute thing, it's entirely separate. Plus.. I'm pretty sure most people wouldn't say the same if there was a super cutesy child-like guy added that's suppose to be from a culture that primarily revolves around brawn, killing, and fighting.
I don't even want the next race to be full on beast race, because chances are it'll be something like cute little bunny people or something, and the last thing I want is more people going "SE gave you your beast race, now stop whining!". Like the big problem imho isn't that it's another demi-race, it's the super cutesy look and emotes with the girls (Which really doesn't fit the motif of the Xaela) and the various elegant poses with the men. I'd much prefer just the option to make an Auri girl that's big and tough looking with less "cutesy" emotes, because I love all the various Xaela tribes and the few minor plots that the Xaela bring in with heavensward. Another annoying thing is how SE even had a chance to make the girls bigger, but chose not too, look at the Olkund tribe and how the girls remained at the average height "for whatever reason". IMHO it would've been much better to make them have massive clan differences, with the Xaela having more scales, bigger and tougher looking women, and an entirely different set of emotes while the Raen would have more cutesy and smaller men, less scales, and more elegant/cutesy emotes.
They aren't dragons... ; ;
They are not magical creatures either, they are supernatural. They are demons or yoma, IE: Monsters. A dragon is a type of monster sure, but Au Ra are more the "things that go bump in the night" type of monster... A yoma is just a japanese kind of monster. America has like bigfoot and vampires. Japan has a different idea of course.
What a society thinks of as a monster is usually a cultural phenomenon. Is there any wonder this race has Japanese names and themes?
It's just like if SE made a bigfoot, wookie like race and gave them all american midwestern style names and themes. Though people would probably just say they were "hairy rogdelyns" :/

They're not demons either, their motif is "demons" but even that's weird. The development went - Dragons -> Then SE didn't want to make the players feel weird playing dragons in the Dragonsong war -> melded the Demon and Dragon design -> Current Au Ra. My issue is SE's reasoning for changing them from dragons to demons makes zero sense, demons aren't really seen too fondly anywhere in Eorzea, the Elezen are playable and also a factor in the Dragonsong War, and SE didn't really help the whole "Not make them feel weird being in Ishgard" when the game talks about how a ton of Xaela were massacred trying to migrate into Ishgard.
Except the Xaela have Mongolian names. SE has proven that they can do two things: 1) Not make everything super Japanese. 2) Make clan differences.
It doesn't help that the girl Au Ra look near identical to the Miqo'te/Midlanders in facial and body structure, especially considering how they hardly have any scales in some spots and their horns are much less noticeable due to their size. Like.. The girls are literally one inch smaller than Miqo'te at minimum and maximum. They girls the way they are, ie super similar to the Miqo'te/Midlander, to appeal to that demographic specifically.
