    Any other Black Mages annoyed? (2.x to 3.0)

    So I main BLM. I loved the aoe damage that we had. Our single target was okay but aoes...that was our thing!
    But now the entire rotation is messed up and Fire IV isn't even an aoe? It's like the whole point of the Job was to be ranged, casting, aoe damage and now it's just single target...which would be great but we can't move while casting so we essentially do no damage now.
    I think it'd be better if Fire and Blizzard IV did AoE damage...or if Flare wasn't nerfed. Most of the HW fights are full of enemy aoes and it makes single target damage nearly impossible without eating a ton of damage.

    I hear a lot of BLMs are switching to SMN...I'd like to stay a BLM but at the same time I'd like for things to change....or make our job actually able to do stuff again.

    What i find funny is they nerfed blm's aoe because if was *OP* while also buffing summoner's aoe to BLM's ARR level.
    Fire Iv being aoe would be insanely broken. All they need to do is allow fire iv to proc firestarter and extend astral/umbral to 13 seconds.

    That works too.
    I'd also like leylines to move with the character because it's totally useless in any of the HW content (which is the only place it can be used).
    It's like....drop leylines and move 5 seconds later.
    I almost never put it up because it's just a waste of time...I know I'll be moving out of it almost immediately and not going back because of the 100 aoes that will be in that spot.

    I like the new identity as the single target dps mage.... always wanted that, and I personally dont want that changed.

    SMN and BLM need seperate identities and having one do better ST and one better AOE is fine... I'd like to remain the ST mage though.

    SMN has always been single target. If you want to be single target then why did you go BLM?

    I typically don't like for dungeon balance to interfere with raid balance (see: ARR SMN and MNK in dungeons vs coil), but I do think a small F2 buff wouldn't really make or break anything in raids. Maybe just 120 potency on F2 to help sort it out a bit, keep the BLM dungeon QoL on par with SMN somewhat. Right now I would never ever in a billion years go on my level 60 BLM for dungeons instead of my level 60 SMN unless I'm just fooling around.

    SMN is no longer single target. Bane now extends to all enemies in range (vs. three previously), Shadowflare is AOE, Enkindle is AOE (with a greatly reduced cooldown compared to before), Miasma II is AOE, Painflare is AOE and Deathflare is AOE.

    Not to mention each of the pets has an AOE as well.

    Unfortunately, I can't really comment on BLM at the moment. I have leveled AST and SMN/SCH to 60 and am currently starting on WHM. BLM will be the last magic job I level, so I'm really not sure how the new abilities work/feel. However, I've been with some really amazing BLMs in various 51+ dungeons, and seen them do an awesome job.

    We're coping I think but it's really complicated once you start getting to the 60 dungeons. 50-57ish you can get away with the old rotation (albeit flare doing pretty much nothing...and I mean I've hit mobs on the map for 0 on it for some reason which I think is a bug....). Blizzard IV and Fire IV mechanics seem good until you realize that they don't affect the Astral/Umbral timer meaning you have to do Fire IV twice and fire I to keep Astral III up. It seems good until you realize that the aoes make it literally impossible to do this rotation properly because you're either constantly interrupted or always having to move. Leylines is supposed to supplement this by making casts faster but it doesn't move with the caster so once it's set you really can't stand in it because you're gonna get hit by 4 aoes.
