Disappointing sales. The Elder Scrolls Online outsells Heavensward.

FFXIV isn't one of those overnight success things and I don't think anyone ever expected it would be. There's still big, BIG issues and bad press, but they are plugging away and slowly building the fanbase back up. I don't think it's in any trouble, but I do agree that it hasn't been the huge smash success some were expecting and hoping for. SE just isn't focusing on the things that piss people off enough for the community at large to switch over to this game from the other choices they have.

That doesn't make Heavensward a failure. Hell, we're all still playing it. But it does mean that other games are going to outsell it. Elder Scrolls especially is a HUGE title in NA and Europe. That's OUR devs, OUR game. This, at its core, still has its home base and heart in Japan.

I just don't think it's all that fair to compare the two.

Not to be mean but you really think that makes a difference? Are UK gamers that much different than JP or US gamers, prob not. The fact the servers didn't crash for a week like you guys predicted goes to show that heavensward wasn't the second coming for FFXIV people thought it was.

I love FFXIV, but even I can see the game has problems. And white knighting the game isn't going to help anyone. That being said, i think ffxiv is in a pretty good place for now.

Hunts are still broken. Housing is still out of reach for players which means that all the content gated behind it is as well. The UI still could use some enhancements. They've made changes that weren't needed and people don't like (smart unaway, dragging ability added to right click for some reason)... there's still some things that need to be addressed and aren't really being dealt with.

Yes, a lot of things are great. The game still has problems and some of them the devs are just ignoring in hopes we'll stop bringing them up.

I am on Jenova, a server quite well known to be less-populated and I have massive queue times and see nothing but players everywhere. The new zones and starter cities are filled with green sproutlings for real and it's weird.

So if even a "dead" server like Jenova has so much activity I really don't care about these supposed comparisons.

Not really, i just agree with the OP that elder scrolls online shouldn't be beating Heavensward right now.

Cant really compare a release of a B2P game vs an expansion to a subbed game. HW doesnt even include a month to go with it. Not to mention Elder Scrolls is really a new release for consoles, which ARR did a long time ago. Oh and as many of stated, thats just UK (not even EU) where FFXIV's biggest markets are JP and NA.

Bingo, save yourself the stress and just do your dailies ...rest of your reasons are fluff...stop being salty, its just a game

Servers still crashed, and the reason they didn't as bad as 2.0 launch was because they have done some heavy work on the servers to make sure they didn't. It has nothing to do with people not buying hw. It's also an xpac, most people don't buy a physical copy unless it has a reason like a CE. The fact that HW made the top 10 is pretty impressive, since only people who finished 2.55 can really use it. There is also the combo pack of arr+hw which probably isn't included in those numbers.

No idea what their expectations for Heavensward are but by those standards I'd say they are probably refusing to come out of their bedrooms about now.

"Retail games". I'd guess the vast majority of players got the digital version.

And don't forget: PS3 Version is digital only in EU. No retail.
