Upgrading 1H weapons is awful

This is awful, being forced to buy both a sword and a shield and being made to upgrade them at the same time. It was so much better when we had to spend a little more than every other class.

I got my pld i170 sword and the tank trousers, I then beat bismark and got the i175 shield followed by a doman whetstone. So then i was left with half a dozen pieces of i145, some i160 and 2 pieces of i170.
I could not upgrade my weapon because I did not have the shield, didn't need it but needed to spend my law elsewhere.

This is a step backwards and is bad in general, there are many solutions from returning to the old system of spending more, making a 1H whetstone and a shield whetstone (that when bought cost the same total as a 2H whetstone) or even just combining sword and shield into one slot, atleast then you don't have to pretend to give us choices.

At this rate SE could just start making you upgrade all 4 accessories at once with a mega gemstone with no option to do them individually or something but taking away our options is a very bad thing.
I've already sorted things out my end, but this is very worrying and should not be used again.

I'm confused why you wouldn't want to get the 170 shield and upgrade it to 180 in the first place they could of made it worse and made you buy 2 items to upgrade both but they went with the easier way to make most people happy.
In final coil you needed a carbontwine and a carboncoat to upgrade both of them to max item level where as other jobs only needed a twine to upgrade their wpn to the max

It's because people complained that there was a disparity between Paladin + every other job.

There. Happy? No? Well, tough. Having to have double the whetstones or double the seals for sword and shield alike is just painful. It literally only affects Paladin since all other classes wield 2-handers, so why should we be made to suffer? If you add up the law needed for the sword + shield, it's the same as the 2-handers are individually. So, your argument is really moot.

Did you miss the part where i asked for a 1H whetstone and shield whetstone added?
THe point is forcing sets on us is bad. What if an entire armour set could only be upgraded when you have the full set?

If you want your weapon upgraded you have to pay 10 just like everyone else.

Yeah, I sure loved needing to get two upgrade items for my weapon slots on PLD instead of just one. I can't see why anyone would find that problematic.

Here's what you do:

1) buy the shield (bringing up your total law expenditure to exactly the same as what it would be for every other job)
2) upgrade the sword+shield
3) throw the shield away so you can keep using your precious i175 one + just pretend that you bought some other job's weapon so that the laws/seals you needed was exactly the same as it would have been for every other job

I was being sarcastic in my post so I edited thats where the 7 and 10 came from

Anyways they wanted to even it all out that way neither the paladin nor the other jobs had an advantage either way

Why would the 1H whetstone cost the same as a 2H whetstone and not 7/10ths of the the 2H whetstone? With the shield whetstone costing 3/10ths of the 2H whetstone. If you understand maths even a little you should realize that it'd cost the exact same amount as for any other job.

This way pld aren't disadvantaged into wasting tomes when we already have something better.
I know law is cheap, but I am talking about the future, I don't expect the law sword and shield upgrade to be changed.

Shouldn't be the weapon of the PLD one of the last things you upgrade?
I go for upgrading armor and accessories first before I lay my hands on boosting the stats of my weapon.
