Help. I can't do any more cutscenes, but want to progress. What should I do?

Hi everyone. Returning player here. I've been subbed since 2.0 but frequently get pulled away into other games or RL. The last couple times I've come back, I start grinding away at the story, but after 50 quests or so I get really burnt out. I love FF story and want to enjoy it, but the sheer volume of quests and drawn-out dialog gets me to a point where I just start banging my head on the desk and saying, "oh my god I don't caaaaare!"

Welp, here I am now, I've completed 3 patches worth of story in the last 1-2 weeks and have two more to go before HW. But I've hit my limit. I just want to freaking play the game. But I don't know what I can do and don't really have a social network in the game yet. (No I don't want to level a new class or craft right now, I want to progress toward endgame - I have yet to ever reach it). Last time I hit this point, I was just so bored that I quit playing.

Any suggestions? Can I progress in HW without finishing this story?

You can not - you must complete the ARR storyline before you can access Heavenward content - sorry.

You have to finish the story to get into heavensward, fortunately, your over halfway there.

Another good thing is you should be getting experience for doing the quests, giving you a bit of a headstart into 50 before you get into the areas. Also, if your having issues getting gear for some of the later stuff, you can probably get a full set of 115 gear from a friend whom can hop into ishgard and get it for you.

The story grind is hard, and tedious (I know, because I literally made my character a week and a half before launch of heavensward, so that was fun), but I do have to say it's pretty worth it, especially seeing how your going to get roughly half a level of experience people starting off didn't get.

Sigh. I've avoided using the ESC key because I don't want to skip anything good. At this point though, I'm so jaded that I'm not really appreciating any of the story anyway.

Anyone have recommendations on which cutscenes are worth not skipping?

That's purely subjective.
But IMO, I'd skip everything ARR related, since you can find summaries of ARR's plot elsewhere.

Then skip anything that doesnt have VO. Honestly, you can skip pretty much everything except whatever has Iceheart or the very end sequences at Ulda. Those are the main story arcs leading into Ishgard. Everything else is just tiresome, boring, fetch-quest heavy filler.

Well, someone had to be the one to say it. Sounds like you're just burned out. If you aren't enjoying it yet, you won't enjoy Heavensward, it's really as simple as that. It's basically more of the same.

In fact, Heavensward has even more quests. Most of which needed to unlock the 'cool' stuff such as flying in each of the zones, many of which branching off the MSQ or even off other quest chains. In short, if you don't enjoy questing this might not be the MMO for you. That's why I suggest taking the above advice, going at your own pace so you can enjoy it more rather than trying to mindlessly rush to the finish and be done with it.
