why the hell are people hating on a realm reborn, why is everyone rushing to heavensward, is it that bad terrible and dreadful????? i mean come on, if u hate it that much why the hell did u get the game in the first place? it takes u like 3 days to reach the ending now and do the quests some of the quests are perfect. why are you whining so much? if u like tanking go with paladin or warrior, if u like healing u have 2 wonderful jobs, if u like dpsing u have 6 amazing jobs, u need them anyway for the cross class skills

Not to sound rude or anything, but if you do get bored of the base game before you reach the expansion, then you will get bored when you reach the expansion. If you didn't like the story now, you probably won't like it later. It isn't really a "missed opportunity" on their part since you actually did buy the game. In the event that you do trudge on and reach the expansion without getting bored, then you have a lot of great content ahead of you. I've barely scratched the surface of the expansion, and it's pretty great so far. I'd say it's a missed opportunity on your part.

It's always been the way that old content is considered rubbish while new content is considered good. Doesn't matter how good that content is at the end of the day, it's still 'old' and therefore the loot it gives is 'old' which inevitably translates to 'rubbish' by the modern player.

There's this mindset that exists in FFXIV that if you're not at the bleeding edge of the game, you're left behind in the wake of everyone else. To some degree, that's true since new areas means new things to obtain. New loot to find, new items to harvest. Whatever it is that takes your fancy, that's content gated behind the MSQ. For my part, I really enjoyed the older content. I loved the story, and I enjoyed the journey from humble beginnings to warrior of light.

I'd still encourage anyone playing the game for the first time to kick back and enjoy the ride. There's more to gaming than the endgame.

Their missed opportunity is that they would have $40 more from me right now if there was anything worthwhile in the expansion for a lower level character, because I didn't buy the expansion They would be $40 richer whether I liked the story or not simply if the new classes were available to me. Many people have returned to the game for the expansion. There is always a player turnover but there will be a larger player turn over when the expansion isn't even available to many returning players. Not to mention the ones that don't even come back because of this fact.

There seems to be a counter argument more or less stating that gating these three classes is crucial to prevent noobs from ruining the dungeon/raid experience of veteran players.

That by gating the classes, the new players can learn all about the dungeons and become efficient at their roles along with the steep learning curve that comes with each respective classes.

So if say little Billy who is new decided to lv grind to 50, did all his quests as a White Mage and suddenly wanted to pick up Dark Knight. Would Billy know the basics of how to play a Tank despite grinding through MSQ and it's filler contents throughout as a White Mage? He might have picked up few things here and there but in all honesty no I highly doubt Billy would be a competent Tank compared to those of us who simply started out with a tanking role from Lv1.

This whole argument of gating classes behind the reasoning is outright ridiculous.

I also can't help but wonder if some of you are mistaken or confused. We aren't asking SE to allow complete noobs to start their adventures at Lv50 as one of the three new classes.

Yes you are right in thinking that some of us feel that the new classes are too complex to learn and overwhelming. Then why not let people play from lower levels with less abilities unlocked instead so that they can get used to the classes gradually? This would solve the problem of having noobs ruining dungeon/raid experience and give them time to learn their class while delivering the 3 classes to everyone. Those who finished the MSQ can start their 3 classes as lv30 as we do already as a nice gesture of SE saying Congrats you're not a complete noob so you get to start at lv30.

And your point is? Returning players would most likely have known about the MSQ being a requirement from when it was announced months ago - unless, of course, they live under a rock. They don't have to buy the expansion right away, y'know. Grab a sub, hop into the game, complete what is required, and boom; access to the expansion once they buy it. There isn't any rush unless you make it one.

It is not bad business at all unless you have proof that more people are quitting over it than staying of which you do not, you can't please everyone all of the time. Some of us like the fact content is gated behind story progression while others do not...however neither has proof they are the majority and SE will continue to gain people and lose people regardless of whether was gated behind story or not. Different people like different things...that's just how the world works and what pleases some would not please others.

90% of you people that "quit" and only came back for Heavensward and its content are gonna end up "quitting" again anyway. At least this way you can just quit again while you're ahead instead of wasting hundreds of hours only to reach the same conclusion you did last time that this game just isn't for you.
