I think they have a grand plan to release Zodiark but some of them have different views on how to make that happen. Even the Ascian's have an Ego.

There are 13 Black Robe Ascian + Elidibus. We have only met 3 of them though. All 3 of which are now dead.

    Loghrif
    Mitron
    Emet-Selch
    Pashtarot
    Fandaniel
Altima - Seen in a Cut scene
    Halmarut
    Nabriales - Dead
    Igeyorhm - Dead
    Deudalaphon
Emmerololth - Seen in a Cut scene
    Lahabrea - Dead

Im not convinced that Elidibus is even an Ascian to begin with.

I think you have the right of it though I would argue it may be a little early to write Lahabrea off as 'dead' at this point. Despite what Thordan says about primals consuming aether he doesn't actually consume Lahabrea; instead Nidhogg's eye embedded in the sword absorbs Lahabrea. It may be possible that he is merely trapped within the eye and it would require the destruction of the eye to actually kill him.

I agree, I don't think Lahabrea is necessarily dead, just trapped in the Eye, much as we did to Nabriales and Igeyorhm (the former of which almost broke out of the white auracite, despite his weakened state). That said, I'm getting the feeling that he could escape the moment someone uses the Eye as a way to release the aether within (like the Aetheric Ram or blade of light), and by that point he may have absorbed a fair amount amount of Nidhogg's aether. Of course, that's assuming aether in the Eyes is stored over time and not simply consumed.

That'd entirely depend on us plucking the eye back out of Nidhogg's head again. He did reassume his full form, after all.

If he is indeed still alive within the eye then there are several different ways they could go with the character from here. I imagine we'll be pursuing Nidhogg in an attempt to free Estinien; it would be an interesting twist to have us rescue him only to discover Lahabrea hitched a ride in his body on the way out.

To expand on this, each 'house' of lesser Ascians each follow one of the primary ones. Those of the 12th Chalice are confirmed to follow Lahabrea in the SMN 60 quest. We were also informed that they do not have the ability to retreat to the Ascian HQ between worlds and they cannot possess living hosts (only dead ones) which means killing a lesser Ascian with no corpses around to switch to will actually kill them permanently.

Nah I am sure Lahabrea is dead. Good riddance I say. After beating him up so often I can't really take him seriously as a villain.
He was slashed with a literal blade of aether.
He died with the same effect Nabriales and Igeyorhm did.
    Elidibus sensed his death.

Go and re-watch the cutscene. You literally see Lahabrea's dark aether get absorbed into the eye. If he were destroyed as the others were his aether would have been outright destroyed by that of the light but it wasn't.

Except Elidibus outright says to himself that Lahabrea was slain. Even if you were to ignore that part, primals in general need aether to sustain themselves, so it would act like fuel. Ergo, Lahabrea got burned off as extra calories.

Except within the eye he is just swimming in a current of Aether with no established form. So what's to say his essence didn't just join with the current?
