The Ascians can't make up their minds when it comes to the WoL...(Major Spoilers)

First they wanted us dead (2.0).
Then they wanted us to become stronger by defeating empowered Primals (2.1-2.5).
And now that we've grown too strong, we're a threat to them again (3.0)?

The hell? Is there something I'm missing here?

Because if they really wanted us gone, then why not finish us off whenever we were vulnerable?

I know that all of this could've been traced back to both, Nabriales and Lahabrea (being the arrogant bastards that they are) vastly underestimating us out of their own contempt of the "children of man" at large, but really...they kind of brought it upon themselves.

And now it seems that they're desperate enough as to call upon someone called the "Warrior of Darkness".
Yeah, let's see how well that will work out for them...

I'm beginning to think we're simply being Chris Carter-ed and the whole "overarching story" is being made up as they go.

What you might not seeing it is that apperantly each Ascian is doing his own way to try to revive zodiark. Apperantly they arent a good team. Lahabreah failed twice just beacuse he saw us as buggs. Nabriales failed too beacuse he went rogue and he acted not seeing the consequences of his risk. Aperantly Edibudus warned Lahabreah couple times what he should not do but for what happend he didnt listen. Now 3 "inmortal" adcians are dead. Lets see what Edibudus does to solve the mess XD

Remember that the Ascians themselves discuss how they don't really all have the same goals for the WoL.

I believe the reason they wanted us to get stronger from 2.1-2.5 was because we were basically making Hydaelyn weaker in a way, not helped that we were having to fight a lot of the primals. By 3.0 we were getting a bit too strong so it was time to get rid of us, which ended up failing as well in part because they were too eager in making the plans go faster instead of being a bit slower and steadier.

I think they have a grand plan to release Zodiark but some of them have different views on how to make that happen. Even the Ascian's have an Ego.

There are 13 Black Robe Ascian + Elidibus. We have only met 3 of them though. All 3 of which are now dead.

    Halmarut
    Nabriales - Dead
    Igeyorhm - Dead
    Deudalaphon
Emmerololth - Seen in a Cut scene
    Lahabrea - Dead

Im not convinced that Elidibus is even an Ascian to begin with.

Yes as Kauthryn and Sandkat mentioned, the Ascians aren't quite unified. They all want Zodiarc back, but all go about it different ways. Lahabrea opposed you from the beginning, but only attacked directly when he exhausted all other options. Nabriales was more in your face, and attacked at the first possible moment. Elidibus just wants friends. Of course I gathered from the last cutscene that he no longer wants to be your friend.

Also at first they wanted the beast tribes to go apeshit summoning so Hydaline weakened even more. When the WoL started crushing EVERY DAMN Primal thrown to him/her even with the beast tribes praying 24/7 and using trucktons of crystals to superbuff their gods, they start to worry a bit but they are still cool, since they had yet their god mode on. After the Scions discover a way to permakill, them then they start to really worry about even with the blessing of light off. At the end with the WoL growing even STRONGER to demigod levels at the very least plus getting the blessing on again they are quite worried and they decide to use their Ace (WoD) to try to counter him/her before it grows even more out of control.

I think you have the right of it though I would argue it may be a little early to write Lahabrea off as 'dead' at this point. Despite what Thordan says about primals consuming aether he doesn't actually consume Lahabrea; instead Nidhogg's eye embedded in the sword absorbs Lahabrea. It may be possible that he is merely trapped within the eye and it would require the destruction of the eye to actually kill him.

I agree, I don't think Lahabrea is necessarily dead, just trapped in the Eye, much as we did to Nabriales and Igeyorhm (the former of which almost broke out of the white auracite, despite his weakened state). That said, I'm getting the feeling that he could escape the moment someone uses the Eye as a way to release the aether within (like the Aetheric Ram or blade of light), and by that point he may have absorbed a fair amount amount of Nidhogg's aether. Of course, that's assuming aether in the Eyes is stored over time and not simply consumed.
