My point is your blowing the time required way out of proportion just like your likening it to the confederate flag now. This game is as much rpg as mmo, deal with it. Anyways, I'm not even gonna bother with thread, your mind is set and you have zero interest in accepting anything other than agreement.

I am for at least stream lining the MSQ so they are quicker to get through, meaning, taking out all the unimportant filler. The MSQ in its current form will keep players new and returning from joining FFXIV which is honestly bad business. An MMO needs a constant cycling player base to keep the game full and healthy. However, if the game begins to just lose players without any new coming in, you risk losing money and resources.

I understand people think the story is very important because it's a FF game. I get it. However, I think you can keep the importance of the story while cutting off the fat and making the process of getting through the MSQ a lot quicker for people to get to the newer content. There can always be compromise.

I do agree with Shykrin that some of the fat could be trimmed off a simple approach would be to fold some of the xp gained from the side quests into the MSQ quests so that at no point do you hit a level defecit and are forced to level outside of it.

I DO agree with this, especially since the main storyline for Heavensward seems to be just this. No filler, all important story. The hard part is determining what needs t obe dropped from the story.

Friends have asked me if they should pick up FFXIV now that the new expansion is out and I've said yes but wait to purchase the expansion until you've completed the main story line in 2.0 first as its probably going to take a while and there is no sense in rushing it to get to areas you are not ready for and it gives you time to find out if you enjoy the core game first. If you don't enjoy X class try another there are tons to choose from not even including the 3 in Heavensward but if you got to the point of quitting before you will quit again because you don't enjoy the core game.
Defending poor choices is WHAT got Square Enix into the mess they were in for damn near 10 years. The turn based system that made them into a mutlimillion dollar company and pushed the envelope for graphics during the SNES/P1/PS2 days is what got them where they were. Then they started to think everything they touched would sell. FFXi was a great game but it was obvious that their UI was one of the worst ever seen by a MMO. Then they threw the entire kitchen sink at FFXIII but changed what people loved about FF so much that they lost a TON of money on the game. Which then in turn forced them to release FFXIV to soon, to early, with guess what the WORST UI in history again. Except they made the grind unthinkable with the level system and penalizing you for experience the longer you played. This forced other planned FF games to stop production. But now they have come out with a hit, and are back on track and doing great things but still make HORRIBLE choices like gating the ENTIRE expansion. Why? Is it because they feel they can do no wrong again..probably so because mindless people defend them even when its a clear poor choice. Stick to what works...make a game with an amazing story and great gameplay but dont try to change the entire MMO genre...there is a reason they changed their UI to the classic MMO style.

This is unlike any other MMO, if you don't wanna play FF for the lore, there are many other MMO choices out there.

People come back to the game due to the excitement of the expansion...not because of the content they already played or experienced over the last two years. MMOs are about living and exploring and playing with friends, not everyone wants to do that by beating all the content...and shouldnt be punished because of this. Bring home a new video game system to your home and then tell your son he can't play it because he didnt beat all his previous games on his older system yet...tell me how that works out.

If your going to skip cut scenes and click through dialog then you really don't care about the story at all and doing it only to burn through it and get to HW.
If anything this thinking shores up the argument to drop the msq requirement and leave it for the people who care about the stoy

It's only the main story quests (the ones with fiery icon) on their head, NOT beating ALL contents in 2.0

Vicus Xi is horrible it was fun when it came out. I played for years looking back I can't believe I thought that much of a grind was a good thing, I still have nightmare about Valkrum Dunes. Another thing XIV version 1.0 was Xi with better graphics. The reason Xi did well was because at the time it was the accepted standard. The problem wasn't that SE changed things it was that they didn't.

Back on topic I don't think that players should have access to those classes after purchasing Heavensward I've given reasons for this in an earlier post.
