I'm finding the Gilgamesh community to be ugly and vulgar, is there anywhere better?

I am a decent person who does not allow the status quo of anonymity to dull my compassion for others and this in turn subjects me to a great deal of negative attention because I refuse to adopt this vulgar and disgusting way to behave.

To the point, I am wondering if there are others out there like me who want better than to talk about perverted, disgusting things. Is there a place in this game's community where it is okay to be a nice person instead of a total and complete douchebag?

If you think your server has a nicer community, I'd like to hear about it, I am willing to bet I'm not the only decent man who plays this, at least, I hope I'm not.

No matter where you go you're going to find people talking about perverted things - even the nice people. The nice people will also say they're sorry if you're offended though. Brynhildr's pretty good for that in my circles, but it's also got it's fair share of jerks and potty mouths. There are probably nice ones on Gilgamesh too, they just either aren't speaking up or have turned of things like shout chat because they're tired of it too.

I find Courel passable. You get the occasional arse, but normally the community, at least publicly, such as in Mor Dhona shout chat (or whereever that will end up post HW) is pretty good. My FC is full of polite, adult people, so that is a plus. That said, it all depends on what you would call "perverted, disgusting". Sometimes profanity happens, or in my FC, crude humor, but its kept to a minimum.

I get a lot of unenlightened ones implying that just because I have common decency that somehow makes me homosexual, as if being homosexual is a negative thing even though it's not and nor am I gay (I'm married with a baby daughter) just as an example.

One of your problems seems to be that you are on one of the two biggest servers in the Aether datacenter. When a large enough group of jerks get together they start playing off each other the start causing problems for others. My suggestion would be to transfer to another smaller server.

There are plenty of nice people on Gilgamesh. I've gotten to know a pretty good-sized portion of the community in my year there and the vast majority of the people I've encountered are quite nice.

Are there some jerks there? Sure. There are also jerks on my other server (Balmung). There will be jerks anywhere you go because such is the nature of MMOs. The trick is to surround yourself with the nice people and simply ignore the not-so-nice ones, because they will always exist.

If you would like some friendly people to run things with, feel free to shoot me a tell if I'm online when you are. I've got lots of friends who are always happy to help others out if they need to run a dungeon or a trial.

gilg has a massive FC catered specifically for LGBT people called taint, i think? it has 500 members.
i know you arent gay, but im sure you can find people with common interests in that FC if fear of being treated like homosexual is your concern.

and im sure that FC accepts straigth people as well

There are lovely people on Gilgamesh and toxic people as well which is true of a big server in any game.

Stick to the people you like, learn to ignore the people you don't and eventually you will just get MMO callouses and learn to let those verbal assaults slide off you.

I came from WoW where I spent years on Moon Guard (the most hated server) and Illidan (the biggest server) and oh I can tell you stories...

But I wont.

What I am getting at is the problem is not unique to Gilgamesh.

Whatever you decide to do, though, please keep on keeping on. Don't let bullies get you down. We need more compassion in general on this internet of ours, not less.
