I have two other family members who are on the Mac and would love to play this, bootcamping for them is not an option. My iMac runs WoW on ultra at better than 60 fps. FFXIV runs on my bootcamp at 45 to 50 fps, very smooth, very playable. On this Wine port, no matter what the settings i get 19 to 24 fps. This is a 27 inch iMac and i have seen the problem where you go for the native 2560x1440 resolution of the screen and the client appears in only the top half. I was able to get around this by setting the configuration to Full Screen and that resolution. Applying it, force quitting it and on the relaunch it retained the higher res. YMMV.
The client is barely playable and tends to self corrupt over time. Its kind of heartbreaking how you get used to the lower fps, only to have it garble all the names in the Inn when you get there. So you restart the client and it works again for a little while, then glitches out when you teleport. Its kind of like it forgot how to render in mid teleport. I was shocked to read that people are getting better performance out of Parallels. I will try that I guess.
But really Shame on Square-Enix for not doing any of their own testing, its so crazy obvious that no one did... Can you imagine, maybe it was like the
Emperors New clothes, no one at any checkpoint had the courage to say that this client is krap. They kept ok-ing it all the way up the line and this is what got released.
Does anyone think this can be fixed?
