A level 51 botanist retainer can bring back 20 per hour. Its also very easy to collect with your own level 51 botanist. For higher level materials tho its indeed pretty much needed to have your own gathering classes leveled.

Unfortunately there is no fast way to level gathering classes. Levequests are only a slightly faster then normal leveling.

For crafting and gathering, levequests are super fast exp in comparison to DoW/M leves. It was fast when I did it 1-50, and it's fast now. 50-57 in less than one evening. It would have been to 60 in one evening, but I stopped when I got to clouds zone and couldn't fly...

It's all about having the gathering+, HQ green gear, and at least the AF blue tool reward from finishing 1-50. Max your gathering during leveling and you should max your leve exp. The evals 320/160 are by far the best exp. You don't need to stop to farm your i75 or i90 tools. I did it with the AF tool.
