I guess it all depends on how you did things, but I was 54 on day one from the new leve for gsm. It was just a matter of desynthing NPC gear for materials. I really don't feel like there was much of an advantage to this considering the new leve give out 180K+ exp for the lvl 50 leve.

Some people were level 60 in a matter of hours doing the lvl 45 leves. You could get 213k min or 239k max by crafting items that cost pretty much nothing. Unless you have gathering levelled up or know someone that can gather the new mats for you, the lvl 45 leves was the quickest way back then. Some people also took advantage of this by selling a lot of the lvl 45 leve items.

I had a revelation about this today. I think the lack of crafted gear is because grade 5 materia wasn't ready yet.

I'm not sure if SE mentioned anything about all these stuff not being in the game yet. I thought the only thing they needed to add was the Alexander raid.

No they didn't, but I wouldn't blame them for keeping quiet if I'm right. Grumblings from it being late would be better than the backlash of having it turn into grade 4 materia, then changing it later. That and if had come out now, that would make it the best gear in the game. Just think what that would have done to the economy. No, I'm sure they're holding back. The question is when.
