Considering the results, it wouldn't have been a bad investment.

I hope that answers your questions.
You're extremely generous. That synth is something anyone could have done just by picking up a saw, even yourself. No carpentry experience required.

Despite how I may sound, I respect all crafters who have put forth the time and effort to excel at their chosen profession ... be they grind-crafters, leve-crafters, or equipment suppliers. Though I am all for maximizing my profit, I wouldn't low-ball a fellow crafter for the sake of making an extra 4K gil ... especially a crafter that is higher rank than me and is doing me a favor. That just seems disrespectful of that crafter's time, in my humble opinion.

Anyway, enough about me. We're supposed to be arguing tooth and nail about the abolishment of parts!

yes, we get it you went out of your way to go and get the materials and then pay someone else to make a part you could have made for less yourself. you could have easily went to any city and bought the starter saw and a log and done the part yourself and had no problems with it, but instead you try to make it sound like the item was hard to get. you say you had to go looking for someone like it was a big deal when, in fact, you could have spent a few minutes and done it yourself.

your story has nothing to do with the need to remove parts. it has to do with someone not really wanting to make the item at all besides that finished product.

Well, to be fair, he may not have realized he could have made it himself either.

I agree. I was just answering a question another poster posed to me.

But you do touch upon one of the sensitive subjects of FFXIV. Does a player make their character into something they don't want that character to be (in my case a Carpenter) in order to be more efficient at the thing that she wishes to be? Must one become the master of every craft that crafts every part for every piece of equipment they want to make??

A subject for a different thread, I think.

i agree with you to an extent. the question is how is this any different than leveling up conjurer just to get basic buffs and heals for your gladiator? both the way crafting and battle is done you need multiple classes leveled a minor amount to help your main class to be better. that is actually one of the things i have loved about the game and one of the few things that got good reviews about the game when the rest of the game was trashed.
