    But... they can switch you to another peer to try to get you away from the congested segments. They don't HAVE to use just the one routing partner you are currently using. Ormuco peers with Level3, TATA, and Cogent (and a couple others). Verizon peers with those three also (they also have a peering arrangement through their own ALTER.net business class as well)...it's just a matter of convincing them to take action.

    And yes... they CAN do it. Time Warner has been doing it for me for almost a year now. Was on Level3 through the weekend, and tonight I am on TATA. It can be done...they just aren't.

    Raist, how would I go about getting comcast to do that? I've no idea what you're talking about, but it sounds good.

    East Coast Verizion LAG

    Small BUMP. Same exact issue as the last couple posts..

    East Coast, NY/NJ area, using Verizon FIOS. And since several months ago, been getting moderate to severe lag during peak game hours of 7-8pm. 1-3 second lag with ping latency and packet loss.

    Trace routing revealed that there is one router somewhere after NYC that keeps dropping packets at that hop and it is the problem. Verizon, of course, can't do anything about it because they say its out of their jurisdiction or something. So hopefully Square can sort that hop out. This issue is pretty severe and widespread among the FF14 community. I think it is worth looking into.

    Also, using a VPN, or something like WTFast, does provide a temporary bandaid, improves the connection during peak times by about 80%. However its not a permanent solution. That hop just needs to be sorted out.

    I have been constantly lagging since the first weekend of Heavensward release. The hot-fix patch they released Tuesday (?) did not alleviate any of this lag I am experiencing right now. I have this feeling that since it is fourth of July weekend, people are crowding the server. But I can't really say where my problem is. My ping is around 120ms to NA server. I am on U-Verse, playing from Bay Area, California. I tried port forwarding, tunneling using WTF, public DNS without any real result. I sorta want to contact ATT but I do not know how I should approach them on this issue (especially if they are just going to say, "It's not our problem").

    Cali has routes that can go through some big hotbeds for congestion. Generate/save some trace logs to the server your client uses (run resmon while logged fully in game to find it) as well as some other popular sites/services (another game or things like youtube, Netflix, hulu, Microsoft, etc.). You should get some that show both good and bad pathing that demonstrate the difference to your ISP---forward them to them. Once their Tier3 team reviews them they should be able to escalate some sort of fix.

    As for the VPN...sometimes you need to manually choose a different tunnel to connect to. You can wind up hitting the same congested area(s) through a VPN. But that is the beauty of a VPN. You can change your route on demand to demonstrate the difference. That is ultimately how I got my ISP off their duffs. I showed them a good and bad VPN route, then showed them how bad theirs was.

    I play on PS4 and PSN has been giving me issues. Would going thru Sonys server give me lag spikes/ packet loss in FFXIV? BTW im on Time Warner Cable 100 mbps, I also know Sony throttles there speeds to, seems to be around 50-55mbps. EDIT: Have a new router still getting lag spikes/ packet loss.

    I'm on PC and East Coast Verizon as well, and this is just getting terrible. The game, at peak times, gets to be completely unplayable, even solo. Its getting quite old now. Every since HW released its been getting worse and worse.

    PC, East Coast (Florida), Verizon Fios, same issue. Verizon of course says its not them. The only issue is that its ONLY in ffxiv. No issues with other games during same times so I dunno. Definitely getting old.
