I was looking forward to this game for OS X for two reasons:
    1. I expected the game being free if you already own the Windows version like every other available Windows/Mac OS game. Don't forget you pay a subscription fee to play the game and that a Mac is a PC.
    2. The game would be native to the platform. I thought this because they have it already developed for PS3 and PS4. Both consoles use OpenGL as a base library as OS X does.

At the end the game must be bought apart from the Windows version, Heavensward too. Furthermore, it's a Wine port with bad performance like the one I have made with Wineskin for free. Even your own Wineskin port is better because you don't have to pay for the Mac version in case you already possess the Windows one.

Just adding my voice to the chorus of disappointed Mac users here.

The FPS on my fresh Mac install today is about 16 fps and topping out at around 20 (at best). Not unplayable but extremely poor. If I switch to my original PC install on the same machine via Parallels, my FPS instantly soars to 50-60 no sweat. Even in the most chaotic dungeon run, I never seem to drop below 40 fps.

    Please fix!

I still can't even run it.... as soon as i try to launch FFXIV i get a pop up "Verifying Final Fantasy XIV" which then disappears and then updater doesn't appear. Can't even find an appropriate help topic to get advice. Has anyone else had this issue?

    doesn't even open

After waiting almost 2 years for the client I preordered it, was billed immediately.

Square gave literally no information on when the download would be made available (though i assumed we would be able to download it for the launch)
Even on the run up to launch no information was given, i tried to contact support and was ignored and told that "the information will be released shortly" up to the day before launch.

2 hours after the servers go live i finally got my email. I spent 7 hours downloading the client, unpacked it, move did to applications and the application won't even open.

I have to "show package contents" > contents > MacOS > and run FINALFANTASYXIV exec file just to launch the boot loader. (yes I've set it to allow apps from anyone)

Now i have another 7 gig to download as an "update" and use a workaround to open the game and if your stories are anything to go on it doesn't look good....

Very poor performance here, too. Running a GTX 660, which does 50-60 FPS on medium settings @ 2560x1600 in Windows.

With the OS X port, I can get 10-20 FPS on minimum settings, 1280x800.

This had better get sorted soon, because this is completely unacceptable. At the very least, we all deserve a full refund. I will unsubscribe rather than be ripped off.

And now it's just crashed. While I was standing still in a quiet part of Gridania.

Update: I have now submitted a ticket asking for a fix or a refund. Well, I've attempted to, anyway, as the system won't let me submit a ticket for a Mac client, - it has to be Windows, PS3 or PS4. We'll see what happens.

Yes, I am having the same performance issues. I am running a Macbook Pro with Nvidia GeForce GT 650m 1024MB, Intel Core i7 2.6GHz, and 8 GB DD3 Ram.

Here is a video link of a Quicktime I shot flying around the new areas: https://youtu.be/B062uH7m4dw

As you can see, the Mac client is clearly unplayable to any standard. The game gets down to 4 FPS at one point!!

I would suggest running this game in Bootcamp if applicable. Unfortunately, that means I need to buy a Windows key which I was hoping to not have to do. It's either that or go back to the PS3 version which has horrendous load times. Sadly, the PS3 version ran smoother than this Mac Client.

I'm also amazed at how SE left Mac users in the dust with no Tech Specs (besides on Reddit, which isn't really a credible source of information) or official benchmark to test our systems with. We all went in blind and this is how they treat us? I waited hours in a 95 person queue for a chat agent, only to be disconnected and told that there weren't any agents to assist me at the time.

Well, I'm looking for a solution people, and I was hoping that this would've been it. I guess I was wrong and SE let me down on this one.

Time to add my voice to the crowd. Purchased the prerelease which a joke as the Mac version is not released until the actual release date. No information given until the last minute which is disgusting customer support. Then once I managed to download and instal the game, I am able to log in, but every time i press play, i keep getting a "A fatal DirextX error has occurred.(30000000)" message and then the launcher crashes/closes. I made a point of checking the specs of the game before ordering it (I have a Mid-2007 iMac) and all the product info said when it came for System Requirements was OSX (which i have). I would expect the game to work based on this. And what the heck is up with a directX message on an iMac anyhow? I thought that directX was a windows driver and not seen on an Mac. Extremely unhappy. Have submitted a ticket.

The Direct X error is due to the fact that this is actually the Windows client that we paid for again with a wrapper. This is from the Wineskin website to clarify that, " They are basically what they sound like.... they wrap around Windows software, in order to make it run." Still, there is no reason that the performance should be this bad on even high-end macs.
