Is the problem apparent depending on playing DX9 or in DX11? Or is the whole thing a complete clusterf... bomb?

I find it kinda baffling that we need to buy "seperate" versions of the same game just to play on the same platform limited by an OS.

Shouldn'T PC/Mac count as one and the purchases be linked to our mogstation ID?

I... I just don't get how S-E execs thought this was ok. It's bordeline greed.

Sorry I am kinda mad at all this. It'S also been about six days since my last FFXIV fix...

I knew not running DX11 would be a penalty, but this is crazy. Didn't anyone test this stuff?????

    Note the requirements:
21.5-inch iMac (Mid 2014) with Intel Iris Pro Graphics or higher
MacBook Pro 15 inch with Retina display or higher
In other words, you must have the newest Mac available to try and run this!!! Could they limit the audience any more????

Pretty limiting. And the OP does NOT meet these.

    Still ridiculous.

I have a MacBookPro 15 Retina and it runs HORRIBLY. They should pull this from the store and refund people. Also fire the company they hired to port this. I thought it would be a native release, hence the reason we waited so long. What a joke. A group of high school kids could have ported it and got this results.

You have to buy a license for every platform you play on. FFXI is the same way.

I more than meet the requirements.
For what it's worth, people on the Macrumors.com forum did try it on a $8000 Mac Pro with 12 cores and dual AMD FirePro D700 cards, it didn't go above 35 frames on the LOWEST settings. Wut?

Well, maybe Nvidia will do a better job with the client? According to this Transgaming press release, they literally just closed the sale of the Cider technology and team upon which the Mac client is built.

We all know that the dev team isn't required to be transparent with us but I'd love to know what the plan going forward is and how committed the team is to a playable Mac client.

Throwing my hat into the ring. I gave up playing on the Mac side and now I have rebooted into Bootcamp to run it on Windows. I have a GeForce GTX 680MX and I can run with max settings under Windows without a problem. On the Mac client I am getting ~15 FPS.

Well I'd take awful FPS over simply crashing on launch. However, I can't say I'm surprised by this at all. Square has a long history of terrible quality PC releases, why shouldn't that continue on Mac? I realize a Wine port is hardly ideal (embarrassing really since Square has developed their own engine, they couldn't manage to port it to a very standard OpenGL platform?) but it doesn't have to be this bad. EVE Online is perfectly fine on Mac, even if it's a little better on Windows, and it's a WINE port as well.

So, no excuses Square. This is really bad.

On a late 2013 iMac with a 3.4 GHz i5, 8 GB of RAM, and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M GPU, FF14 went from 30-60 FPS in Windows 7. The Mac OS X "version" was peaking at 40 FPS with settings lower than I have them on the Windows version. This is the exact same hardware and I know for a fact from playing other cross-platform titles that it isn't OS X causing the drop. I've also noticed polygonal glitching and the UI flickering at random intervals.

I was looking forward to finally removing Boot Camp (and reclaiming the hard drive space occupied by Windows) as FF14 is the only program I absolutely must have Windows for. I'm seriously disappointed in whatever business process allowed a buggy, low-performing version of the game to get released. I seriously feel cheated out of my money and want a refund. I'm not even sure I want to continue my subscription.

The Mac version is not ready for retail release. Without a proper port, it probably never will be.

I have to add my voice to this. I am glad you can run it under 20fps. My MBP Retina can run it under 10fps or so at just 2048*1280. If I would have known this before the launch, I would not have bought it and continued to stick to my crap bootcamp Windows OS, plus I even can have the early access. If SE fails to do anything about this in the next few days, I will probably just rage quit the game all together. No one can bear the single digit fps. And I would think of my £40 has just been swallowed by some rogue traders.
