While we do pay a subscription to this and it would be good of SE to give us a free day oe two extra for the server difficulties, it's unlikely because we were in the early access phase.
The problem will escalate on official launch when everyone that didnt get early access also try to log in. The devs are likely preparing for it, but it won't be enough. People beg for a quick fix, but most don't understand the time it takes nor the process to take care of problems. I mean the problem existed for about 4 days. Assume it takes about that long to get a patch figured out, fixed on test servers, and approved for distribution. But that would be for in game, the issue we have lies with the lobby servers we connect to before signing into our characters.
It's not a simple fix, and this is a problem that may persist for the first month because of all tje new and returning players wanting to go to ishgard (hopefully not, my server is in Aether).
People may say they should add more servers, or split the data center in two. Sounds simple enough, but it does take time. Putting new servers in isn't like buying a new pre built PC. And splitting the data center would require them to make sure every single person affected by the split does not lose anything.
TL;DR
Don't expect anything like a free day or week unless week 1 of Heavensward's official launch (starting the 23rd, today as of this post) is REALLY VERY BAD.

Besides the poor communication, the thing that is unacceptable is that this was seen a long way off. This has happened to Aether (I can specifically speak about Balmung) every single time. It is not as if we are losing people, we are at the max 24-7 and they are still allowing more on the server. Why wasn't this looked at before now? Why are people still allowed to join the server when we are in a queue even on normal days?
I was going to keep this to myself but everyone seems to be forgetting a few things.
Yes Havensword is still in the Pre-Launch phase and you can always expect issues from any game before and the first few weeks of actual launch.
However not everyone bought Havensword. What about the people that own the base game paying for almost a week of time they cant use? Is it right for the company to take time from the entire base of paying customers just because they want to add more content. It's not like this is beta where these people are not paying for game play. This was a forced update for everyone leaving a large amount of player base without being able to play a game they are already paying for. Also if they got the expansion 2 times this month.
Just my opinion no offence to anyone.

Lol are you serious? No they're not going to compensate. It clearly states in the ToS "Service may not work 100% of the time"This is maddening. I not only bought the expansion for $40, but now I'm just repeatedly getting either random crashes or error codes at the login screen. I havent been able to login at ALL today. Similar happened yesterday, but I managed to squeeze in just before midnight for a spell.
This will likely continue through the week for sure. I would like to think Square wouldn't just run with our money in the subscription model for this to be happening. After all, the whole subscription model is supposed to be a "better service" deal and this simply is not happening.
Also the game isn't broken, and your login issues isn't their fault. It's the hundreds of thousands of people hammering the login server at 1 time that's generating the issue. Nothing SE can do about it because we're ddos'ing ourselves.

No, the thing that is unacceptable is people that know little to nothing about how a login server works spouting off.Besides the poor communication, the thing that is unacceptable is that this was seen a long way off.
