    Jobs and Titles

The forums have been getting increasingly hot over the Class vs. Job debate and from the way things are looking neither side will win since both will be living side by side when all is said and done. So with that out of the way, time to address another (oddly) rampant topic. There is no guarantee that when jobs are implemented that they'll share any of the names that have been used before.

I mean, instead of Black mages we get Wizards or Warlock? Instead of White Mages we get Priest/Priestess? Ronin instead of Samurai, Bandit instead of Thief, I think you guys get where I'm going with this. I mean for christ's sake they've been called Knights forever in Japan not Paladins. I mean seriously, what's in a name?

It's the Internet. Even if you win, you lose.

    Familiarity.
    A sense of connection.
Being able to quickly understand the purpose of the role a character plays with a simple glance.

    All sorts of neat things.

Actually there is a guarantee, read some of the producer letter. He has already said the jobs will be named traditionally.

Like he said, we already know 6 of them and they have the standard names like paladin, monk, bard, white mage, etc.

Never mattered much to me what they called 'em. Sure if names like monk, black mage, etc. were brought in I would think it's kinda cool. Can't lie that I wouldn't enjoy some monk abilities. But not really a major concern of mine. Though it seems to be pretty important to some. In my opinion they put too much stock into the name itself, but to each their own. -shrugs-

One of the things I'm worried about is hearing people complain about how they can't solo as well on Jobs as they can on classes. I can understand a sense of familiarity and a connection with past Final Fantasy game, I can understand that. But to desperately cling to things and refuse to try new things is borderline. I've said it in previous posts, what are we going to do with a divided community, ones that like classes and play as them and the rest that are hung up on jobs and refuse to let people play anything else? I'm not looking forward to that.

So classes were said to be solo content, and highly flexible and jobs are said to be restricted but defined roles for group play.

Now in general, we'd be on our classes to even start gaining access to things that can define us as jobs. But still we're leveling without any experience to the more defined things that jobs gives us, unlike FFXI where we learned everything from level 1 and along the way.

So I'm wondering how easy will it be to transition from class play to job play when using it the first time? Have to wait and see when we get the patch for this stuff.
    really?

i think it would be simple. if you are a DPS.... you hit things. healer? heal people... should not be to hard.

well in a solo situation, if someone is unwilling to play as a class rather than his beloved job even though it is clearly stated that jobs are for party setups and classes allows for more flexibility in soloing, then it's his problem.

That aside, a person can stay on his job and go grind in party and never solo. There are a lot of options for grouping.

My concern lies more with the whole thing XI had of "sub NIN or GTFO" and people getting extremely narrow-minded and one way in their thinking when it comes to playing the game. The only thing about XI's Job System I don't like isn't the system itself; instead its what the community made from it. "It has to be this, this, and this. We won't accept anything else." And since those same people can't wrap their minds around the Class System, they're demanding Jobs so they can go back to doing that again.
