The materias shown in the picture were tier 1/2 materias, those arent high level. We don't know all the rewards but pictures from the Live Letter (I think it was) showed how on one trip there was a return of something like 30+ high level materia plus other things. I know that some rare leathers and bamboo (sheets?) are turning up too. However, as I have no access to FC airships I'll not get to know what is coming back, unless that information is available to everyone.
It's quite possible that eventually you can get similar amount of high level materias i suppose. Right now apart from that picture all that is known is that some (maybe all?) schematic materials are gained via the voyages.
I'm the leader of my FC and I'm giving access to anyone who helps build the airships. If it gets chaotic at a later date, then we will implement a system of who gets to use it and for what reason. We used the same system when gardening first came out and there were only 3 plots for the whole FC.
Are they? Tier II materia is a joke to farm, and I'm fairly certain it would be easy to farm it the old fashioned way, than to build an airship, send it of for half a day (patch notes showed a 12h mark) and have it come back with a random selection. I would much rather spiritbond some mage gear for a decent chance for Spell Speed, than send an airship off and get Parry.
The other materials shown, well I don't know where they were shown exactly, but they sound like the materials used for drafting up new plans, rather than anything a serious crafted would need. Even if we were getting things like Darksteel from these, I'd be going "Well, we're going to need Darksteel to synth more stuff in the Workshop in future", rather than sitting on my Free Company throne and letting out an evil laugh as I hoard all the materials for myself. Until I'm seeing Kingly Whiskers dropping, I remain unimpressed.
I really think we need more time to fully get an idea of the scope of airship exploration either way. Not really enough information right now to discuss how fair or unfair it might be that only the Free Company leader can get the rewards (although either way that still sounds like an issue with the Free Company, rather than the system itself, bad leaders are bad) and the 3.1 content should really open it up from "Just another retainer venture" to something everyone partakes in as it should become a proper event then, with teams of players going out to physically explore the islands, rather than the airship doing it automatically.
I really wish SE would have planned out gardens and airships a bit better. I love my FC, and I don't think this is their fault, but while I can use the plots in our garden from time to time, I don't get to reap nearly the amount of benefits that the leaders of our FC do from them, just because I'm locked out of being able to access the content on my own.
This system feels even more like it's designed only to be used by the FC leaders, and the rewards are theirs to deal with as they wish. I'm actually interested in helping my FC build an airship, but if I'm locked out of using it what's the point?
The company airship system should be useable by everyone in the FC, just require items as currency to use it (similar to ventures) that individuals in the company have to farm on their own.
These systems seem like they're designed to cause in-fighting within the FC, because they're so potentially easily exploitable by leadership. They create a group in the FC that can make more money just by virtue of rank, which should only serve to create order in the FC, not to create an uneven playing field.

Reading this thread and it is pretty sad to me because a lot of the complaints I read was about the leaders of FC's reaping the benefits and not the members.
First let me rant about that and I will then say the benefits of the airships that they have already mentioned will be coming in later patches.
RANT: So it is not so much a rant as a call out to you and your leaders. SE can not control what your leaders let you and do not let you do. Your leaders sound like selfish douces honestly.
Within my FC we rent out garden plots to FC members that they can use to do their own gardening if they want. It is cheap gil but it keeps it in the FC. We have 1 bed that we do FC gardening on for our onions and such to make gil or give to randoms to lvl their chocobos. We do not keep those for ourselves.
Also when it comes to the Airships we have actually given 'payment'to those who have helped towards the airships. We are a FC where we can have 40-60 on at a time and of course not everyone helps with these projects. So those who do we have given them some gil for helping, especially the ones that have given a lot of their mats that could have been sold for their gil purposes.
I feel like you need to look at who is leading you and the FC you are in if they do not let any rewards be had by the FC or do events to reward people for helping. Do not blame SE because of players you let influence your game. RANT DONE.
The benefits to airships is that in later patches (could be as early as 3.1) is that they said they will be implementing the use of Airships by members to travel to the islands you have unlocked through the voyages. So everyone will benefit from these crafts, but as far as more instantaneous benefits look at your leaders and not SE.
Starbuks (love the name, Angel) I get what you're saying and it's perfectly reasonable in a small FC but if there's over 100 people who want to be involved then it's a problem. For a start, they won't even all fit in the tiny workshop!
