Without the help of an IRL friend's free company, I would not even have any gear that I currently have.

I'm ilvl 83 and stuck out of getting ilvl90. Now that the soldiery tomestones are removed, I can't get Daystar.

They added Daystar set to the story quest rewards, but i'm already past those quests. before Heavensward, those quests gave you FOOD ITEMS instead of the daystar set!

So here I am locked out of continuing story because I can't get gear, with no idea how to even begin to continue. But I have useless food items!

So it looks like I'll have to grind over and over the tower(s) and coil just to get myself to the point of continuing to Keeper of the Lake. It is going to take HOURS.

I really wouldn't complain about this if it was actually this way to help the game, to continue my progression of the story. Now I have to bend over backwards re-running duties to get equipment when /literally every other player behind me/ gets gear during their main story quests now.

Try to get i100 Gear from Hunt Billmaster, or i120 from Aelina in Mor Dhona, or i100 from Syrcus Tower, or i120 from World of Darkness?
i90 you can get from exchanging Antique sets (obtained from Dungeons) in Mor Dhona.

Wait... you mean I have to grind gear even though I'm level 50 just to experience more level 50 content because SE patched in changes that screw me out of gear that would otherwise just be handed to me for completing quests I already completed and then remove every other previous option to obtain that gear?

That is really demotivating!

I don't think you really understand what I'm getting at.
After the heavensward patch, literally every other player that didn't complete certain quests from 2.0+ got free equipment that set them over the ilvl90 mark throughout quests.
They then removed that gear from being exchanged with tomestones.

I completed those quests before heavensward. Before getting the gear was an option.
So I was stuck outside of the ilvl90 content and couldn't continue the expansion, MEANWHILE, every other player that was /behind me/ could.

Combine that with the fact that the game itself teaches you absolutely nothing about progression beyond the main storyline, players in my situation are absolutely screwed if they don't know someone ahead of them in the game willing to get them higher level gear unless they grind for hours for the /chance/ to get drops to increase their item level. You shouldn't have to do that when there are players that /dont have to do this at all/.

That sucks to hear, however if you can get the help of someone with access to Ishgard there's a very easy remedy for this situation.

The shops in Ishgard sell item level 115 gear for gil. Assuming they aren't getting resold on the market board you could get somebody you know to pick them up and trade them over to you. In terms of prices, if I remember correctly the chest piece is around the 20k mark?

Yeah this is what I ended up doing. Got a friend to buy the gear for me.

It is just frustrating because since I hit level 40s, my friends in this game have carried me the whole way through.
And I can partly blame myself for not knowing how to progress on my own but I can't help but to put some blame on the game itself, its not like anywhere else in the game has given me any sort of idea on how I can progress on my own.

Don't sweat getting help to progress, a lot of people are only too happy to help as it extends their play time and thus enjoyment of the game in doing so as long as you are striving to get better.

That's what we are doing with people in the FC who were still trying to gear up enough to finish the MSQ.
Otherwise the roulettes drop so much poetics now that you should be able to get an entire set of 120 gear in like a week.

But I understand the frustration point of having missed the gear handouts.
