My thoughts on machinist (Up to level 42)

I like the proc watch and ammo management.

But the reward for it should be a combo that doesn't have less potency then a paladin combo.

The reassembled clean shot probably shouldn't be hitting like a dragoons life surged full thrust. But it should be up there.

I do believe the combos have far too little potency considering they're not a 100% proc. The Dragoon's Full Thrust is a potency of 360 iirc, and you get it 100% of the time if you try to set up the combo.

I'm wondering if Gauss Barrel is actually worth using, outside of decent AoE fights, at all. You're losing all your Auto Attacks, get a cast time on 3 of your GCDs (which could lead up to a dps loss when having to dodge/move) and turns Rapid Fire from a Haste-like buff into just removing your cast time. In return you only get a 200 and a 100 (+300 AoE) potency attack unlocked by it, which seem both rather lackluster compared to what bard gets from using Wanderer's Minuet.

Slug and Clean shots are instant casts when you have a proc in gauss barrel. That's nothing but a straight up dps gain. You also get gauss shot and ricochet, a 200 and 400 potency respectively.

Split Shot, Hot Shot, Lead Shot = 3. Ricochet is 100 potency unless there's a secondary target to hit. Rapid Fire is a dps increase without gauss barrel and is only a mobility increase with gauss barrel.

Just looking at the low potency of all our attacks. Does our little flying robot really do enough damage to make MCH anywhere near competitive dps-wise? Even if our combo had no RNG, it seems like the dps just isn't there. Of course, that's just anecdotal with no math attempted. I just feel weak when I play MCH.

The Low Potency is because you have a Turret, 30% Potency to self and turret in your traits, Gauss adds an extra 20% Potency, I've been having fun fully buffing up with B4B,Raging Strike,Gauss,Hawk Eye and doing burst when Wildfire is active. 80% total damage from traits + Buffs, +15% dex, and Wildfire will do 25% of the damage at the end.

I don't quite like the RNG factor of the 1-2-3 combo when ammunition is down but so far that's my only problem with the class

Does Gauss Barrel make the job any better? I stopped at 50 as I found spamming 1 until getting procs or ammo is up kinda meh. I know the combo wont change but does it make getting the procs more "fun"? since it makes then instant etc.

It feels weird because any non instant attacks are now channeling. You do more damage and I use it in dungeons or with a tank chocobo, when i'm by myself soloing I prefer it off for the mobility. Your 1-2-3 combo with gauss is fine because they get the extra benefit from gauss to instant fire well besides the 1.

My oddness with it would be same as bards new song just turning everything into a channel. I'll get used to it eventually

I personnally get a better feel of the class when playing w/ Gauss Barrel on.

It feels great honestly, the job feels a lot less clunky and you roughtly understand they created the class with having GB in mind. Also, this is super cool to play with GB on because with your procs you can move a lot around!
