DoTs are better for healers than hard cast attacks because you can put the dot on and forget about it while you heal people.

Also if you're wanting to do purely DPS then you'd want to use Aero>Aero II>Stone anyway so it's irrelevant. Using Aero then Stone would be more overall dps then just using stone.

The point that op is trying to make, is that the GCD you spend casting Aero for a sum of 200 potency, could be used to cast another Stone 3 instead, which has 210 potency. You're actually worse off casting Aero + Stone 3.

In other words, the only time when you're better off using Aero is when you cannot complete your cast of Stone 3, which means, if you're not moving, don't cast Aero at all. Use that GCD to cast Stone 3. Only cast Aero when you are already moving, during which time you cannot cast Stone 3.

I understood the post fine, and as stated I disagree.

This can also be cemented that the cast is longer than a GCD, so it averages out.

Stone 3 (210 potency) is simply worth more potency than Aero 1 (200 potency.) Both spells use exactly 1 GCD, no more, no less. So your GCD's used to DPS are simply better to be used on Stone 3 than Aero 1 in terms of pure potency. DoT or not DoT. Healing or not healing. But to be fair, this is not considering the Spell Speed bonus on DoT damage, as I don't think we're too sure how much the effect is.

There are definitely uses for Aero 1 even if we consider it as just 200 potency though. It's an instant cast, which allows you to use it while moving and it allows to smoothly weave Fluid Aura right after you cast it without taking up free GCD time. Also, if strict MP conservation is an issue, Aero 1 uses less MP and provides better MP-to-potency worth than Stone 3.
