Should of kept up with the story then...SE have given tons of warnings regarding needing to finish the story to access the new area's...you could of subbed a week ago and sorted it and been ready, no one to blame here but yourself
I am doing it but the issue is I cant even go and mine or do ANYTHING in the area at all until I get this done. Even though I would rather go mine and have fun that way I cant.
Aren't you in a better position for having the expansion registered without completing the main story? If the level 50 main scenario quests give exp now, that should help you further along when you finally reach Ishgard.

This sense of entitlement.
Note - you are getting EVERYTHING you paid for, you just need to, I dont know, play the game to access it. @_@
Its like buying a single player game with DLC attached to the end of the MSQ and being upset you need to complete the MSQ to access it.
Really?! You do realise you are playing a STORY DRIVEN MMO hell I love the story and I jump on top of it when I can if I wanted to piss about in a game I'd probably go play one of those free to play games that.... Oh wait they make you buy expansions too if you want to access new area's *facepalms* my bad, just go through the story and at least try to enjoy it.
Sense of entitlement has nothing to do with it. I bought an expansion in world of warcraft, I was level 50, I got right into BC. Same with WOTLK and every other expansion as long as I was the required level. Even if I was not the required level I could still go into the areas and at least explore. Gating the main story stuff is one thing. Gating an entire area AND new jobs behind the main story is not something that is a good thing nor is it something that I will accept. This sense of entitlement.

Don't be so mean guys.
A good chunk of the population are just mmo players, not extreme die hard ff fans. Gating an entire expansion with jobs and such behind hours upon hours of useless dribble and fetch quests is a bit extreme. It's not common with MMOs.
Think of it like dessert, you'll get your sweet fix (classes, skills, new areas), but you have to finish the meat and popotoes first. It'll be worth the effort.
And yet, MMO players ought be more familiar with bland fetch quests than FF players. You can burn through them pretty quickly, and combat is no sweat for anyone who's level 50 and has acquired a modicum of gear. The only players who ought to complain are newbies who have the entire MSQ before them, and even then, it hand holds them to level 50 anyways.

There are a ton of people in this boat as well. This is not my first rodeo into a MMO either, but the game, community, and development team have made it very clear that the story drives this game. Many things have been gated behind the MSQ along the way so that the player base would get the games story.
This game is not WoW or FFXI. It has been a story driven MMO since its initial release last year and has never pretended to be anything else. Visual style and story drive this MMO as much as the mechanics do.
Now if that's not your cup of tea I completely understand. Maybe there is a need to reevaluate the game your a playing, because the people angry about it being gated are really the minority here.
