Well, I'm signing off for the night (off of the game, and off of the forum). I hope this thread doesn't end up doing more harm than good. I just wanted to let all the ANTI-FFXI ppl out there know how frustrated FFXI fans get, when our ideas get shut down just b/c we draw them from the good aspects of FFXI. Obviously, BeePee and Keith can't take a joke very well. I thought it was a pretty funny, and innovative way to communicate our frustration to everyone. Then again, this society is pretty up-tight, so I should have expected the "BeePee" types would be the first to speak up.

Then when it was clarified that these are two different worlds, I got a little confused by that.

I thought they should have always continued with XI with this game by finding out that Hyduria is actually Vana'Diel hundreds of thousands of years into the future. The races have evolved and changed and these characters are inhabiting the world after an event, naturally or man made, that almost wiped them off the face of the planet. This would have been a much more interesting approach than saying, "These are two different worlds, but with the same races and styling." If they were two different worlds, then make it so. They are most certainly not. That's why it's hard to detach from XI, the creative team dug their self into that hole.

The familiarity of the two games, or even the staple final fantasy mob, spells, and deities, are kept there to give admirers of the series a sense of comfort in what they are playing. You cannot have TMNT without Splinter or The Foot, you cannot have Superman without the threat of kryptonite, and you cannot have Final Fantasy without Moogles, Chocobos, Cactuars, or Blizzagas! Perhaps the intention was to have this new world give comfort to players who carried over from XI and leave a new impression on players who are new to the world in general. This is a safe assumption and one that can hardly be cast aside. It's right in front of your face. So, like what the OP is trying to say... so articulately and elegant I must say.... ignoring these things is sort of ridiculous being how so blatantly obvious it is. Embrace the similarities.

lol you got me back for one final, thank you. Glad to see you understood what I meant. Thanks for the support Brucey. I appreciate it.

That link is funny but not quite hilarious but it is a somewhat accurate depiction of the attitude flowing around this forums lately. *goes back to lurking*

When the 2nd to 5th post of most threads is dedicated to calling the OP a troll, this has got to be a totally different form of trolling...."trolling while insinuating some else is a troll".

On a more serious note, there are FFXI similarities but people can't see past "omg its not exactly like FFXI so its not really like FFXI at all", the three starter cities/jeuno were all redistributed so that Uldah,Gridania,LL and Ishgard can be seen as amalgamations of Windurst,Bastok,San D'Oria, and Jeuno. But usually people are like "windurst =/= gridania"...no it doesn't you're right, but the isolation of LL is like Windurst, the winding mysterious nature of Gridania is like Windurst. Uldah is a combination of the nice layout of San D'Oria, and the desert nation aspect of Bastok, while LL having a almost castle like architecture and a dock system is much like San D'Oria. Jeuno and Isghard will probably share stuff like "multiple levels stack on top of each other"..maybe even a garden on top, but the fanatic religion reminds me of the Elvaan in XI from San D'Oria which seems loosely based on real life Catholocism.

The races are the same, but at least Roegadyn breed now and not reincarnate, they realized they didn't like being called "privateless" and such as Galka. I feel there is less of a flare per race now, and maybe that's because they added clans? I would really like to see each clan expanded on and have a really specific flare to their culture like XI there was a huge difference between the culture of Taru tarus and Mithra, but in a way they became intertwined. I would like to see more of this "we're really different in our past, but this is why we're all together now"

Some are good changes, some are steps back. For example XI and XIV both have linkshells, but due to some vague idea of a player companies from way back in the day, which didn't translate to new dev team well, we now have linkshells with half or less of the options that FFXI linkshells did. I should be able to see where all members of my ls are, I should be able to set an lsmes...little things like this. Don't hold out on linkshells just for some vague notion anymore. Player companys should be more like a connective guild system like SWTOR (3 alliances with other guilds), not just oh "more members and more features but basically like a ls), player companies should also have a way to combine resources effectively, but essentially a linkshell should have this to so we can practice in lil league to get to the big leagues if you know what I mean.
