Yes you can actually. You can travel from La Noscea to Thanalan by taking the boat (by sea), then Thanalan to Shroud by walking. Funny that lol. (I return aggressive sarcasm)

Actually, you have to be on a specific quest where you travel as your nation's envoy before you can even use the ferry. Many have tried, especially after the launch of rogue. There is only one work-around and that's to be in a company whose house is located on the other side of the ocean and have an aetheryte placed on the lawn.

i dont think even then u can do it seeing as i remember new players who join fc doesnt even have the teleport to house for example mists teleport

i mean boats from limsa to western thanalan. seeing as the others doesnt get u to blackshroud or thanalan from la noscea

I bought the latest WoW expansion recently, I'm not entirely sure why I did that but anyway with the xpac I got an included "boost" to level 90 which was the level cap before this xpac landed. After the boost my character is conveniently in the new area starting the questing there, with level 90 gear and a few abilities. I'm honestly not sure if that's a better way to do it. On arrival there I felt so unfamiliar with everything... It only allowed me to queue for dungeons around my level, which I didn't dare because I don't know the abilities, layout etc. well enough. It kinda throws you in the deep end, I guess. I think in the future there will be more of this type of thing. To me, the levelling/questing process in MMOs are tedious. Things don't get interesting till endgame. But then if you go straight there you'll not have had time to get acquainted with the game...

I've been in multiple different MMOs and no other MMO has had this much 'quest-gated' content. Everything is quest gated in this game. Dyes are quest gated, glamours are quest gated, every single dungeon available is quest gated, housing is quest gated, Gold Saucer is quest gated, Sight Seeing is quest gated, chocobos are quest gated, every new feature introduced in the game is quest gated.

The brand new expansion is quest gated.
The reason why this is a problem is that usually when an expansion happens, people want a fresh start. The more requirements placed upon players to be able to participate in something as basic as...new content they paid for...the less players will be able to meet those requirements.

Trying to get through the msq is very frustrating. It wouldn't be so bad if 90% of the msq before 2.1 wasn't filler content.

No other MMO I know of does this, at least not so consistently.

Grab a tank buddy. Even better, grab a tank buddy who is working on a relic. They're willing to do anything if it gives them lights or soldiery (probably poetics soon.)

This is what FCs are really made for. We've been catching people up pretty steadily for the last week.

You make it sound so very easy. Sadly that is not the case for most brand new people who are starting the game. In fact i had to leave my last server because most people did not care to help since they were done, (and the none-active endgame and terrible playerbase) thankfully because i was a healer, the time i could actually play i got through the story pretty quickly. but i can imagine how it is for a pure dps who cannot conjure up tank buddies that quickly, assuming they actually aren't selfish.

I know what you mean. I got dragged into WoW a few months before Draenor so I did the grind from 1 to I think..43 or something before that 90 boost came in. Waited until I think I was in the 60s or whatever the requirement was to get fully upgraded crafts of choice with the 90 boost. Not going to lie everything felt...empty. Even though I knew the basics of my class, enough changed in those last 30 levels I skipped that I felt super derpy trying to do anything. I was utterly useless in raids.

To me though the level grind here feels very different than the grind in WoW. I just couldn't get into WoW's story or lore, and it felt painfully slow. Leveling in FF14 feels so much faster compared to any other MMO I've played considering all the level bonuses we have now, let alone what we'll be getting in the next few hours.

Also...while your opinion is valid and I respect it, I just don't understand why people who hate questing play themepark MMOs. That's like...80% of the game and you claim you hate it. Whereas endgame you do the same two-three dungeons over and over again and yet that's the hot thing to do constantly? I personally just can't see the difference.

the hero of light wants into Ishgard without even becoming a hero in the first place and saving them...? how would that even work when thats the only reason you are able to get inside at all
