Should my wife and I buy the expansion?

Greetings! My wife and I just started playing this game again. We left off several years ago getting to L37 in our primary Job, but we decided to re-roll. So we are now on L15 of our second class after hitting 15 in our first class.

We are essentially brand new and it's great fun starting all over again. But now I see that there is a major expansion coming. Given where we are at, at this point does it make sense for us to get the expansion or just wait until we cap out at 50 and finish our main story line? Are there advantages and new features that we will be able to enjoy now, even under level cap? I have no hesitation spending the money, I just wonder if it will make any sense. I would love to see new features and content if it's something we can actually consume.

getting the expansion now or later, doesn't really matter. as you can't do expansion stuff without finishing 2.0 story completely.

The only thing you'll have access to from the expansion before completing the 2.55 storyline is the Au Ra race. All other new content is gated behind completion of 2.55.

I'd probably wait till you level a bit more and see if the interest still holds for you, while there is a lot coming, you won't be able to do any of it until you complete the full story and gain access to the expansion area. If you know for a fact you will still be playing, might as well, only thing you gain from waiting is a possible price drop depending on how long you take to reach the end.

Welcome back to the game you two! Now someone please do correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds to me the only thing barred by expansion is Ishgard itself and any post 50 content.

The pre-patch notes are currently unavailable, but it sounds like with the expansion installed, all level 50 quests (including the 2.1-2.55 storyline you have to complete) will give experience points where as previously they did not. However, if you don't get the expansion, you won't get those because the raise in level cap is part of the expac. But other goods such as being rewarded with up to item level 110 gear should be available regardless if you get the expansion or not as that's an update to ARR, not a HW thing.

So really I guess it would boil down to if you want the extra experience while you're doing post MSQ quests. If you're waiting on money or some other variable, you wont' really feel a need for the expansion's new things until you get closer to the end of the MSQ

oh yea once thing i will say, you can't pass lvl 50 without the expansion, the lvl 50 quests give players who have the expansion exp. so if you get to lvl 50 you would want to buy it for the extra exp to help lvl you up a bit before reaching 3.0 content.

Heavensward doesnt need to be purchased for the changes to 2.0 content.

I would wait and see if the game holds your interest. None of the Heavensward only content can be accessed before level 50 (and the level 50 main scenario quests) anyway.

Raised level cap is Heavensward only though so if you want to reach level 51 you need the expansion.

If you want to play the new race, you can do so without completing 2.55 as well
