Oh please. is this newsworthy? it is the same in ffxi and has been like that for a decade now. what makes you think they will change this in FFXIV?
besides, pvp worked in ffxi despite this.

I've read in a translated interview that they are remodeling server/client communication system roots.Yoshida has done a remarkable job turning this game around. Each and every patch things get better, yet one issue consistently remains with no end in sight. We've all experienced it, knowingly or not, because it has an influence on every single aspect of the game.
-Have you ever been running throughout town, and seen a character(or enemy) in front of you jump into the ceiling or through walls?
-Have you ever attempted to heal somebody running next to you, only to be told they're out of range?
-Have you ever seen an enemy go Red with nobody in sight, only to see a party member run up 5 seconds later and attack with a melee strike?
-Have you ever done DH and seen one of the Eyes charge up their stationary AoE far away from you, then proceed to watch it 'glide' along the floor while charging until its right on top of you?
-Or, perhaps, experienced something like this?

An extremely simple video that I think adequately shows the very root of the problem. While the video itself may seem 'trivial', rest assured the cause behind it is the same as in all the above examples.
I am, of course, talking about the horrid Server/Client relationship in Eorzea. These things happen to a very small extent in any online game, but to nowhere near the extremity of in FFXIV. All frustrating occurrences to say the least, and I think I'm being pretty kind phrasing it that way.
I've given nearly a year of leeway waiting for this to be fixed. It's crippling to all facets of gameplay, and quite frankly it's pretty darn embarrassing. All the content in the world won't make the game enjoyable if this has to be tolerated, and I shudder to think of the amplified effects it will have when we're moving at Chocobo speeds.
Every patch we hear about the 'server upgrades/optimizations', when are you going to get to the one that truly matters?
Sarcasm never goes down well in text, you need to make the text noticably different for it to appear sarcastic. (For me anyways, dunno about anyone else.)I was hoping the smug bastard with his sunglasses (designer, no doubt) at the end of my post would've conveyed a little more sarcasm; I was just giving you a hard time, haha. I agree though, as long as it's done, I'm happy.
However, the current class system is still working, regardless of how broken it is in some players' eyes. The server problems, on the other hand, affect every single aspect of the game...so ideally, I would like to see that taken care of first.
tbh, if I can go: Job: Dark Knight - Weapon: Sword/Axe -OR- Job: Red/Blue Mage - Weapon: Sword I'll be well happy.

I just wanted to say that I am very glad you put this video up. It highlights the single most important thing wrong with XIV that needs to be fixed before this game is relaunched / goes pay to play again.
I posted about this issue in another thread using protect/shell/buffs/debuffs as a reference.

I'll repost it here for support of this post.
Server verification literally takes 4-5 seconds on everything. If you don't believe me, get protect and cast it on yourself. It will occasionally tick 4 minutes 54 seconds and 4 minutes 56 seconds. This indicates that protect is actually a 5 minute spell, but you literally lose 4-6 seconds due to server verification.
When you have such a delay on spells, the same can be applied to your movements, enemy skills, heals ect. This is why we wanted a hardware mouse and its exactly why things need to be modified. There is no "twitch" play to this game, because everything takes a soupy 5 seconds full of lag and waiting.
How are we supposed to have meaningful and challenging fights when we're battling SERVER VERIFICATION ON EVERYTHING and not battle mechanics!?!?!?
I'm bumping this thread....
why?
Cause I want a dev response =(! /pout
I am not sure if you understand what big distances are... a big distance is from here to Betelgeuse, not from here to Japan
Also some locations in NA are closer to Japan than to other parts of North America. There is no perfect place to host servers. Also they want to avoid having people segregated by region. Personally I like the fact that there are peaks at all different times in XI so I can play with people regardless of whether I am on at a weird time for NA players.

Now - all that said - something more needs to be done about this issue. Good luck devs.
Bumping. This needs to remain on front page.
