Any plans for compensaion due to a full 24 hours with inability to play?

Much Rather they take the 24 hours down then do what every other game company does on large expansions... WoW still hasn't got it right, their servers are crap during expansions... SE is actually taking the time to work on the servers and make sure everything is working properly.

I haven't seen a 24 hour maintenence in any MMO I played before this one. Are they actually doing work during that full 24 hour maintenence? Even in other MMOs expansions 24 hours was not normal for a maintenence window.

Can easily remember one, that also had the same kind of upgrades as FFXIV is doing in terms of Direct X engine upgrades (although for xiv it is being optional), which if it hasn't rung a bell yet is EQ's Shadow's of Luclin expansion. Sadly, what followed upon its release was more downtime for various.. yet at times hilarious, issues, that pretty much got settled near the end of December of 2001, and to put that in perspective, SoL came out on the 4th of Dec, 2001. Of course back then, engine updates were very sketchy and almost was bound to have repercussions, such as windows 95 players getting refunded all their previously bought games and expansions, along with expansion and sub time upon use during SoL's release Which was in good gesture, because dx8 could not be ran on a 95 OS.

But how does that relate to ffxiv? Well simply put, engine updates are not to be trifled with, and need to be thoroughly tested, and more than likely we will be seeing more scheduled downtime, but not as lengthy or who knows, may barely see any aside from the occasional lighting fix. That's the only real thing I can think of as to why it's taking long.

I don't mind 24 hours maintenance for things like big patches or exp. I don't think we should be compensated for it.

However when I started playing this game and my first month I was lagging like crazy, and had lots of 90ks and people around me too. (I started playing with 3 friends but they all left due to the lag and I was the only one staying)
And I couldn't get my relic cause I couldn't beat aurum vale due to the lag.

That is something I think we should be compensated for.

So do you think they maybe put up that notice of 24 hours with the knowledge that they will probably get done faster? It does say in the launcher that end time is subject to change. Is it likely they will be done several hours early? Maybe? I'm really hoping to play tonight.

This is most certainly never the case in MMOs.
