being an Australian on the Odin server, this is going to be a complete nightmare. From here, pings/latency is always worse to UK/europe than to NA, and NA/canada is already 250ms. 3 days downtime? They had better ensure we get to choose a different server (without all the moving server penalties like losing housing, restricting gil amounts, paying real $$$) for those NOT in Europe who are only going to be adversely affected by this change.
Since I got my laptop checked ping...0.212s checked ping to London 0.045s and Germany 0.065 eu server base yez please
This ping especially in pvp just kills it for me, no wonder I can never dodge those cometoer stacks despite being half the fecking map away from them...

This should have happened two years ago. I've been paying for a Tunnel service to get an acceptable latency, but it's still not below 100. Without it, I've never been able to do Titan HM/EX without flying off the platform. Not once.
I don't think it's right that we have to pay a double subscription to get a comparable experience in PVE content to what NA has. If it's not happening with Heavensward, then for the love of god, make it a priority and push it out ASAP.
The real problem is not server location, but how they do position checks in this game. Even with a EU data center, there will always be someone with less than ideal latency.
This game needs more intelligent client <-> server position checks.
What is "Cure"? :<
You won't get to keep your house of you transfer, they won't kick someone else out of theirs so you can keep yours. Its been known for awhile that they were looking into moving the EU servers to an actual EU datacenter, not sure why someone from Australia would pick an EU server to begin with really. Not much you can do at this point though.being an Australian on the Odin server, this is going to be a complete nightmare. Location is just one of the deciding factors there's also internet infrastructure too.I want them to put a server in Oceanic region. There are many third-world countries around here where it would be cheap to locate the data centre. Indonesia would be the best I think. Australia and New Zealand players would have a great connection. For Europe they could locate it in Eastern Europe to save money. MMO is the most profitable segment of the gaming market. This game as very popular.
Found an interview of some german dude who was invited to the recent Europe Media Tour, talking about the EU data center (latest info on the topic that I know of):
- SE working on moving servers to Europe at the moment
- Downtime of the servers that be moved is 2 - 3 days
- No changes to existing servers planned cause data is simply being copied
- At the moment, SE is buying server equipment
- No solid date yet, but it will "most likely" be in 2015
