That's what I've read too, I was wondering about servers being announced being in France tho (not that I'd complain, as I'm french and I'd love the lowest ping if possible =) )Found an interview of some german dude who was invited to the recent Europe Media Tour, talking about the EU data center (latest info on the topic that I know of):
- SE working on moving servers to Europe at the moment
- Downtime of the servers that be moved is 2 - 3 days
- No changes to existing servers planned cause data is simply being copied
- At the moment, SE is buying server equipment
- No solid date yet, but it will "most likely" be in 2015

Australians were encouraged onto EU/NA servers by SE, I've been on the same one since beta. It's the same reason we are included with the EU lodestone, mogstation, etc it's all "PAL" countries. There were no EU servers to choose from anyway, they were all in NA so it was a moot point at the time.
I don't know how they are planning to handle any of this so will reserve judgment. I doubt there is a single player out there who would like to be told their latency has just had 100-150ms added through no fault of their own, and the only possible fix is to pay for a server transfer, and take the associated penalties that come with such a transfer.
its up, but god luck getting in...
SE recommended to choose the datacenter with the best ping. Not encourage australian players to play on NA/EU servers.Australians were encouraged onto EU/NA servers by SE, I've been on the same one since beta. Why have you not chosen a JP server like Tonberry or Masamune, the servers with the most australian players?
I got the idea from them at the time they didn't want english speakers on JP servers. It was almost 2 years ago and I was obviously brand new doing the beta, so hindsight isn't particularly useful now. This isn't about me in particular though - NA players on these servers won't be taking the increase to their pings lightly, and there are hoards of those people.
I wonder how it will work.
I assume that they will transfer the chaos datacenter to the eu servers?
I mean so we dont need to make a transfer, because then they would have to find a way to transfer our house, fc and all of our gil too.
I mean my servers name is "lich (eu)" so it has to be moved to an eu server when ready right?
