Use japanese voices, problem solved.
Use japanese voices, problem solved.
But those voices sucked. It's like that entire cast of FFXIV ARR got the script an hour before 'go time', and they were just winging it. The Ishgard general in the blue, and Merlwyb were the only ones who made an actual effort to be in character.
I find it funny that people say Japanese VA is way better, but the japanese players themselves think its not and listen to English voice actors because it sounds better.
On-topic: I believe it got changed because maybe those voice actors couldn't come back again for certain work reasons else where. Being a voice actor for a MMO can be a bit tough because you need to be coming back every major update and this could cause a bit of stress when they need to do other voice over work at the same time. I don't know if this is true but my theory.
It sounds better because the grass is always greener on the other side, English sounds cool to JP players because it's different, JP are really fond of english, that's why they put english names everywhere.
The real reason is because all of the Japanese voice actors feel like the same extremely generic voices you'd hear in any other japanese game. The English voices of ARR were much more unique in both delivery, accent, and pitch. Just as an example for those too lazy to simply change the voices and hear it in their inn room, here's a sample:

Not really. It's the fact that we each know our own native languages better than a foreigner does, and are therefore able to pick up on the tiny details that separate good voice acting from the bad. I listen to the cutscenes in Japanese because I can't tell a good voice actor from the bad, making it far more difficult to break the mood, as it were. When the bad english voices fire up, i just groan and all immersion is lost.
Different strokes for different folks lol. I"m not JP VOICE ACTING IS BETTER IN EVERYTHING blind that I can't spot a game with shitty JP voice acting I'll play this game in either
