Having a paid option to expand our inventory didn't necessarily mean there would never be any free inventory added. Only now does it seem like that might be the case.
While player inventory need to be part of the "every second saved as player backup" datas, retainer inventory don' need a backup saved every second. But still cost data space. So, after talking dozens of times in interviews and Q&A about inventory problems with all the new recipe materials, gear and jobs in 3.0 the solutions is...
You can pay more retainers.
So it's impossible to adds a few more spaces to the armoury chest or increase the retainer capacity but it seems that allowing us to basically pay twice as much per month is completely doable.
I feel the same way. I'll only get what I need and I'm fine with the price. I think the problem most folks have is that Yoshi-P continuously fed us the excuse that server problems are the reason why they don't/can't increase the armoire. Yet somehow they're perfectly fine with the server space by doubling the current max inventory capacity for the same servers lol... when the armoire increase would be significantly less of a potential strain to said servers. The second I saw this in the patch notes, I just knew I'd find at least one thread already complaining about it.
If you want to keep extra crap, you pay a pittance extra. People are quick to break out the torches and pitchforks whenever SE reveals that they might actually be a business and looking to increase profits.
I have 4 total retainers right now. Could I make do with 2? Sure. I keep a ridiculous amount of crap I don't actually need and haven't touched in months. On the other hand, do I mind paying the cost of one large iced coffee per month for the additional 2 retainers? Not really. It's a tiny amount of money for me, but if enough players utilize the service, it's a significant increase in revenue for SE. If I no longer feel like storing all this junk, I'll stop the optional service. It's not a big deal.
Edit: As for ventures and item selling slots, I don't see that as a huge deal; I don't know anyone who has gotten rich exclusively off of retainer ventures (a few mil isn't much), and feeding tokens to all those retainers would be a lot of work unless you farm dungeons all day for items.
I use my FC one regularly. Its emptier now... while my Retainers have nearly maxed their inventories. I was half ready to dispose of gear and crafting mats (that don't sell...darn you early NQ stuff), then realized I have more classes to do... They could at least give us or our current retainers move inventory spaces, instead of needing more Retainers. The problem is, we have so many classes and now we're getting 3 more jobs. So you have all the gear for them + glamour items you store/change. The amount of space that requires both crafting/gathering classes is really high. Just to mention a few things. I don't think a lot of people here use the FC chest to store their personal goods though.
I think everything should be fine if they give us at least 1 or 2 free retainers. Then they can charge us for 90 additional ones if they want.
^^This^^
The problem is not the service itself, hell I'm paying for an extra retainer right now so I do use it.
The problem is that they have given excuses that make no sense given that they can suddenly double the amount of inventory available. So basically instead to fixing a problem they seem to capitalize on it by solving it via a cashgrab.
To play devil's advocate, it could be that the earnings they are projecting from this additional service are intended to pay for whatever additional resources they require to offer it.
(Disclaimer: Naturally I don't know that this is the case. Just a thought, though.)
Extra retainer sure brings lots of benefit to crafting and business. I'm still OK if just for extra storage but not for more venture and extra selling slot on market board, It's feel not right and unfair. TBH I have no financial issue but I still don't like it, I leave WoW because of Token.
This is a good thing for people who want to make more gil, I see no problem here. If anything, it might even help curb RMT by making it easier for players to make money.
I think $30.00 a month or anything approaching that, is insane. There's no reason a game should rival my internet bill in cost. I've been playing Final fantasy 11 and 14 for a very long time, beta tested both - and I would not be willing to pay that much. I'll switch to another game, that's not affordable or justifiable in my opinion.
