Honestly I think this is a great feature for "Greed Farm". That way you'll steal be able to get that fancy weapon that you want even if there's no spot for that class on the party.

that's just how it is.
if it exists, people will find a way to abuse it. doesn't matter how foolproof it is.
i'm all for it. it'll be good for raid teams honestly.
On the night I got my RDM hat, the people who were #1 and #2 in line for the hat did not show up for the Xarc run.
I was the LS leader and #3 in line for the hat.
Miraculously a second one dropped and #4 got his as well.
I have lost many friendships over that RDM hat, but not because I as a Dynamis leader abused our rule system.
When I played WoW some I had nothing but bad experiences with this feature. Just so you get an idea of what happened in WoW everyone who makes groups for raids or anything will always used lootmaster because it was just the norm. Anyway most of the time the person making the group would ninja gear for themself or friends, or take rare 1% drop rate mounts for themselves. Everyone in that game just accepted lootmaster as the norm because they were all like well people could ninja stuff with Need/greed. When something got ninjaed GM would never do anything about it because they would just tell you, "you joined a group with lootmaster so you agreed to whatever the leader decided to do with the loot"
Hosestly I hope this doesn't come the norm to use it in farm parties in FFXIV because it was nothing but awful in WoW.
Let's look at the good side of people, my friends.
It's not ALL the parties that will abuse this feature.
I mean, for 1 bad guy out there, surely there's 5 good guys behind him yes?
10-1 it will become a norm when doing greed farms, or pugging the last one for your group when a item is locked out but because of said class they might try and ninja lot it.
I will counter your bad experience in WoW with nothing but good things either with someone else as the lootmaster or myself taking care of it. You can not base a function just because you had a bad experience with it. I will stand by my first post, if you don't like the feature don't join one with it in place and don't make one with it in place.
Pretty much I would never join any group that uses it, if someone turned it on I would leave and they could enjoy their 30 or so more mins of waiting for another tank lol

Haha this reminds me of the Theif (actual class) that ninjad shadow mantle.
Anywho This system has already been in use somewhat anyways via "honor system" , well at least on diablos server. I've joined plenty farm groups where every one picks the item they are aiming for prior, Then everything Else is free.
Assuming their will not be a function to allow all members to greed certain drops, the lead can always decide the winner utilizing /random
I don't feel like skimming through the notes, but if I recall the loot rules can't be changes once the Duty has started.
I think this is overthinking it. Players already form statics and FC's for content, so this is right up there with that kind of trust.I've got some bad experience in WoW with that. Either the leader helping a friend with certain loot or just making a "fake" group just to help his friend to get said item. On the light side, I would love to have some control over the loot, so I can avoid the group to be ninja looted by someone. Yeah, you can report them, but I'm not sure what's the punishment for that? A pat on the shoulder and telling you "that's bad" or they actually suspend your account/remove the item from your inventory?
Where it would obviously be abused would be farming parties and "pay to raid" (how people sell runs, and pony farms now) So players joining to try and farm some item would never be able to get it from a farming party.
