    Riiiiiight?

See, that kind of blind sheep mentality is exactly what you need to stop following. Kind of part of the reason for the Dragonsong War, or so Ysayle says. Still, I'm glad you're able to grasp the fundamentals.
Yeah it really is wrong. And Iceheart and Y'shtola both point out that we are kinda the bad guys. But like I said you can't do anything about it. YOu can moralise as a player and you can write and in character blog where you debate the issue, but you will need to mow down mobs for xp.

Anyway, the player character is a silent protagonist, but that just makes them an extension of the player. In that regard, there is always a choice, doubly so with regard to the totally optional Relic Weapons (what the original topic is about). Takes a bit of out-of-the-box thinking, but there is a choice.

C'mon, give it a shot! Work those brain cells!
Gonna be straight up honest, I often find my self agreeing with what Gaius said in the pretorium. How ever I don't really get to go "Screw you guys I'm siding with the empire" because of the narrative.

Must be cause I don't see what point I missed. Thought I was agreeing with the fact that the narrative kinda ignores player input when it comes to the script.

No it doesn't. Not in the slightest. The Warrior of Light does what we all know is objectively the right thing to do, every time. S/he's a hero we all can believe in, no matter what happens.

The beasttribes, for the most part, don't seem to be tempered, except for the Sylphs, and the Sylphs asked for it. As for why they would summon primals? Well for personal reasons and security. We claim they harm them but that's not neccesarily something they understand or believe.

All the beasttribes have their own reasons for fighting us and those that are friendly are likewise have reason for disagreeing with the desire for War.

For the Ixali, its that they believe Garuda will provide them safety and return to them the ability to fly. Those who are friendly don't believe Garuda and believe in pursuing their dreams though their own means.

For the Sylphs, its all about security. The Slyphlands are constantly suffering incursions from Garleans. There is a castrum right next to their lands.

For the Amalj'aa its again about security. Those Amalj'aa who oppose it believe that dependence on Ifrit's strength has lead to the Amalj'aa abandoning tradition and honor and that borrowing strength is both cowardess and leads to weakness.

For the Sahagin, its about survival but has grown into a cycle of hatred born out of constant conflict. The Cataclysm destroyed the Sahagin spawning grounds and so they needed to take a site that would work as new spawning ground less their race lose the ability to reproduce. Those who are friendly see the only way for a future that doesn't lead to his young living trapped in a cycle of killing and death is finding a road to peace. Many of the Sahagin who want war with the Limsans have watch their spawn brothers killed in this war and it has filled them with hatred.

For the Kobolds, it was Limsa who started the war and the problem Limsa faces is that the Kobolds are less inclined to trust Limsa now when Limsa betrayed the treaty last time. The Kobolds have a sense that they are repressed by the Limsans and so they see their conflict as one of defiance. That's compounded by the fact that within the upper highranks of the Kobold Orders are some pretty tyrannical leaders that use this fear to entrench their power.

There really is no reason for the Primals to temper followers who are willingly worshiping them.

Also I don't think they are saying are weapon is swallowing their souls whole. It is already established that interacting with items naturally imbues them with pieces of the soul. That's where Materia and Demimateria come from.

Most enemies you kill are hostile but not necessarily "evil". The Garleans you kill were just born in an evil country and are doing their jobs, what about the bats and crows you kill and absorb their souls? They're just animals, they're chaotic neutral and have no sapience. Probably for gameplay reasons i'm sure since the current world is rather small and there aren't many zones with mobs 48+, which is why the books overlap a lot. Doing the relic quest made me realize how small the 2.0 world really was, especially for 50 characters, where you're basically unkillable to 95% of every open world monster aside from hunts.

In all fairness, the game never explicitly states you're feeding your relic souls; I always felt it was something along the lines of "attuning" it to the Zodiac Braves' legacy to awaken it's power.

Doesn't change the wanton bloodshed for fun and profit.

No no, they do wish you luck when they say "may your weapon drink deep the souls of your enemies." I believe that's the phrasing, anyway.

    Ehh, semantics.

Point is, there is absolutely nothing forcing anyone to go out and slaughter living beings (sentient or otherwise) to power up a weapon, and yet we all do it anyway.
