It's called common decency. There are humans behind the characters, and someone who thinks it's okay to join halfway through the last boss while the gate is up and roll on shit while having 0 contribution to the whole run is not a very decent human being. It's not difficult to wait out the last 5 minutes, if that, of the dungeon - leave without rolling and let the people who actually did something have a chance at winning, and queue up again afterwards.

No, expecting strangers to give up something they want because you want it IS NOT decency, it's selfishness. If you want to lock an item, start a party finder and find people who are willing to give up that item for you. Being honest and up-front to the people you are running with and giving them the opportunity to not join your group is common decency, not expecting someone to pass on something you feel you need more than them after joining a blind group.

And the OP expected this everytime he went to run WoD for this particular item. However, losing it to someone who DID NOTHING is not common decency on behalf of the player who did nothing. Sure if the player joined before the boss gate went up and helped out on the last boss, then this would be justified. But the fact the player in question did nothing, like I said, is not being decent and fair.

Like I said, if you expect fairness in looting, join a PF group. It's a very easy way to make sure what the OP described does not happen. The person who joined had no idea where the group was, it's not like the intentionally exploited anything and they weren't a leech who afk'd the whole run. They joined an in progress party they had no way of knowing the progress of, and an item dropped that they wanted. You don't deserve it more than anyone else, and if the OP had won it we wouldn't have even heard about this. This whole thread is about someone feeling like strangers in Duty Finder owe them something because they were there longer.

Yes it is. It's completely fair. Why else do you think the developers designed it this way? There are two sides to a coin! Anybody who queue's for the content has a chance for the loot. It's part of the reason why you join the content in the first place (the only reason for most). No matter when you join, everybody has an equal chance. That person should not be penalized for selecting the "join party in progress" option. They have no control over which part they join if they actually get a party in progress (I hardly ever do but it's a real treat when it happens).

There are people (mostly on Reddit, not the OF) who praise others on forums and boards for doing kind, decent and helpful things - and one of those things could have been someone joining in-progress, not being able to contribute, yet still passing on the roll because they had the right mindset in thinking if they didn't contribute and work for the loot, then they should pass it to the people who did.

What I would like to see from SE as a QoL update for people who get upset by these sorts of happenings, is disabling the 'replace member' option in a dungeon if the last boss gate is up.

How did that person even know if people even wanted it? What if he/she passed on it having that mindset and it got destroyed because nobody else wanted it? I'm all for being courteous, but this is not a situation where being courteous is even relevant. Everybody should have a chance for the loot no matter when you join.

Some people in this thread are trying to cater to the OP's opinion. But really it's part of the game and you just have to keep trying if you really want it. Getting upset about it and whining on the forums does absolutely nothing. I'm gonna cry because I didn't win some loot in a video game which will be irrelevant in a few days when the expansion hits. Seems a bit extreme to me. And maybe that sounds mean but the op seems to need a reality check.

All the person had to do was communicate, and ask. Just a simple "does anyone want this item? I didn't contribute, so do you mind if I roll on the item?".
